Imphal, 31 March 2018 ( Evening News ) : The 42 hour General Strike called by Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation commenced from the mid-night of March 30. The General strike affected most of the Muslim inhabited areas in the State. Supporters of the Strike clashed with Police in different parts of the State , Police fired tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the protesters. Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation called the general strike from midnight of March 30 till 6pm of April 1 demanding establishment of a separate directorate for the Minorities, issue of white paper of the enquiry report of schemes under MOBC Department from 2010 to 2017, and in charge that the MOBC has violated rights to PDS items of the minorities. The General Strike Supporters at Hatta Minuthong, Khsetrigao and Keirao Makting stopped the vehicles and the commuters plying on the roads. Clash broke out between the supporters and the police force at Keirao Makting. The Supporters pelted stones at the Police. The police deployed more forces to control the situation , failing which they resorted to firing tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the protestors. There has been no report of casualty so far. The general strike is being imposed at Lilong Bazar,Thoubal Moijing Mina Bazar,Mayang Imphal Bengoon and,Yairipok.
On the other hand, supporters of the general strike called by Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation destroyed a school van bearing registration number MN01X2383 carrying students. Stones were pelted at the Van with young students still inside the van causing much panic. The unfortunate incident occurred around 6.30 early this morning at Hatta Minuthong. The vehicle was carrying students of pre Nursery to class 5 studying at Brighter Academy in New Checkon. The Van Driver Soubam Superman told media persons that around 20 to 30 general strike supporters attacked the vehicle near Hatta Minuthong. He said the protestors paid no heed despite telling them that the vehicle was ferrying school children. All Manipur School Student’s Transporter Association has condemned the incident as unfortunate and urged the supporters of the General strike to make it very clear if there is any restrictions on vehicles carrying school students. General Secretary of the Association, Jimmy Tongbram strongly condemned such misconducts of terrifying the young children in the name of a general strike.
Imphal, 31 March 2018 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Nongthongbam Biren has asserted that NIA will probe into the missing case of 56 pistols from Arms kote of 2nd Manipur Rifles. Speaking to media persons at CM Secretariat today, the Chief Minister said the case is not only breaching of the State Security but also the National Security. He maintained that the arms kote of 2MR is under strict security vigil 24 hours and that there has not been bigger cheat than this in the history of Manipur. He stated that the situation has made the Government and the people insecure. Biren stated that the arms were brought in to the State in September 2014. An FIR was filed at Imphal Police Station after CO of 2nd MR registered a case for the same. The Chief Minister said 5 persons including 2 personnel of 2nd MR have been arrested. He stated that there is suspicion that there might be political involvement in the case. Biren said the case will be handed over to the specialised NIA. Cabinet Ministers, BJP MLAs, Police and administrative officials also attended the Press meet.
Imphal, 31 March 2018 ( Evening News ) : Large number of people of the State led by Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren paid homage to the mortal remains of Veteran Politician RK Dorendrosana who was the Chief Minister of the State for three terms. Deputy Chief Minister, Joykumar, Speaker, Khemchand, Ministers , MLAs, top police and civil officials of the State offered floral tribute to the deceased leader at his residence in Yaiskul Janmasthan today. Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister, Nongthombam Biren said the former Chief Minister is a highly respected leader national wide and that his death is an immense loss not just for the State but for the whole North Eastern Region. The Chief Minister that the loss will remain as a void in the politics of Manipur. Biren maintained that people of the State must not forget the contributions of the deceased leader. He also wished that the departed soul may rest in peace and that he shares the grief of the bereaved family members. It may be mentioned that RK. Dorendro was the chief minister of Manipur for three times from December 6, 1974 to May 16, 1977, then from January 14, 1980 to November 27, 1980 and from April 8, 1992 to April 11, 1993. He was also elected to the Upper House of the Indian Parliament - the Rajya Sabha from Manipur during September 20, 1988 till March 12, 1990 from Indian National Congress party and also served as the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly. The senior politician was admitted to the JNIMS special ward on March 17 and passed way last night at the Hospital.

CM TOLD MSF HIS REMARKS AT MADHAVPUR NOT INTENTIONAL : Manipur Student Federation has stated that Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren has clarified his controversial statement of Manipur and the whole of the North East region being a part of India since the time of Lord Krishna as unintentional. MSF also said, the Chief Minister will clarify to the public on the issue at the earliest. Criticism and demand for apology about the Chief Minister’s statement at Madhavpur fair in Gujarat by civil society organisations and many student Unions including MSF rose. The agitations even took out in the form of blocking of roads yesterday which led to an official correspondence from the Chief Minster to hold talks with the MSF representatives. Subsequently, more than an hour long meeting was convened from 1 this afternoon. Addressing media persons after meeting the Chief Minister, President of MSF, Ngariyanbam Milan stated that Chief Minister Biren has expressed that his statements were not made intentionally. He also said the Chief Minister is all ready to give a detailed clarification to the public on the matter at the earliest.
Imphal, 29 March 2018 ( Evening News ) : The 6th edition of Ougri Fest 2018 kicks off at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Campus, Langol today. Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar inaugurated the 4 day eventful festival organised by NIT. Addressing the gathering, Joykumar said pure science subjects such as physics, chemistry and biology should not be neglected and students should give equal emphasis on such subjects. He said, it should be in parallel with the technical studies. He said, humans need mental satisfaction more than material satisfaction and maintained that the event would be able to give such mental satisfaction. He lamented that students these days are behind in research and encouraged them to take research works. He asserted that country's prosperity depends on the advancement in research works. It maybe mentioned that the first edition of Ougri fest was held in 2013. The fest caters exclusively various cultural events and extra-curricular activities. This year, solo singing competition will add to the range of events. It may be recalled that social service and blood donation camp were held on March 23 and 27 respectively ahead of the fest.
Imphal, 29 March 2018 ( Evening News ) : Football fans of the State stormed the office of All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) in demand to resolve the issue of withholding the Oldest Football tournament of the North East, CC Meet and Manipur State League today. Members of Football Lovers Manipur stormed the office, however, the office was closed as there were no officials of AMFA in the office at the time. The protestors chanted slogans demanding the officials of AMFA to resign and not to play petty politics in sports. Meanwhile a team of Police personnel rushed to the spot and stopped the protest. Speaking to media persons, Co-Convenor of Football Lovers Manipur, Suresh Sougaijam stated that the fate of Football in the State which is considered as the Power House of Sports is indeterminate and condemned the silence of AMFA on the matter. Suresh maintained that the issue is the root cause of the failure of Manipur in Santosh Trophy and other National Level Football Tournaments. He expressed suspicion that AMFA is playing politics and questioned how the players were selected to represent Manipur and demanded AMFA to resolve the issue at the earliest. He warned of resorting to various forms of agitation. It may be mentioned that the State league was put on halt since November last year on account of a controversy and the CC Meet of the current year has not been commenced yet. A case is underway regarding the matter in the High Court of Manipur.
Imphal, 25 March 2018 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister, Nongthombam Biren has inaugurated Marjing Polo Complex today. The complex was constructed with an objective to promote Polo , tourism in the state and to preseve pony. Speaking at the inaugural function, Biren stated that the Repeal-act bill of Parliamentary Secretary had already been passed and that visiting the nation’s capital regarding the matter is utterly futile. The Chief Minister maintained that the Complex will be tourist destination which will thereby facilitate the people of the state. He said Cable cars will also be put into service from Langol Ching to Marjing Hill and Marjing Hill to Kangla Fort to provide transport facilities to the tourists . Biren said, a sum of 2 Crore rupees has also been reserved for the construction of the gateways to the Complex at Khabam Lamkhai. He also maintained that the new constructions will be in the PPP Model and as such appealed to the people of the state to promote tourism in the state by treating the tourists with hospitality. Chairman of Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited, Dr. Sapam Ranjan; Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board, L. Radhakishore; MLA of Lamlai, Ksh. Biren and officials of the tourism department attended the inaugural event of the Complex constructed under Department of Tourism at Ibudhou Marjing Khubam, Heingang. After the inaugural event, Chief Minister also inspected the construction site at top of Marjing hill where the statue of the Pony would be erected. He expressed disappointment at the slow pace of the construction works and immediately called on the concerned contractor to accelerate the work. Biren also directed the officials of the tourism department who accompanied him in the visit to complete the work at the earliest or else the contractor will be replaced. Marjing Polo Complex was constructed under the sponsorship of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India with an estimated cost of 123 Lakh Rupees. The Chief Minister also assured that the construction of the Polo Ground will also commence shortly at the hillock of Marjing.
Imphal, 23 March 2018 ( Evening News ) : National Institute of Electronic and Information Technology(NIELIT), Akampat, Imphal organised a One-Day Job Fair with an aim to provide job opportunities to students specialising in different subjects in the state today. The programme initiated by NIELIT in association with Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India was inaugurated by Industries Minister, Thongam Biswajit . Altogether 20 companies, including JIO Communications along with 4 other companies from outside the state and 16 companies of the state, participated in the fair. Large number of students, specialising in various subjects and currently undertaking vocational trainings attended the programme since early morning. Some Students gave interview to just company they are interested in while some others gave interviews for 3 to 4 companies. The companies did not recruiting the students immediately even if the students were fit for the job as they have not completed their studies. Speaking to Impact News, Project Engineer of NIELIT , S. Jugeshwor stated that the fair was organised in order to provide job opportunities to the youth of the state. Several students who tried their luck at the fair told Impact news that they gave their best, however the final decision lies with the respective companies.
