Imphal, 28 December 2017 ( Evening News ) : Representatives of Civil Society organisations of Manipur today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the frame work agreement signed between the Centre and NSCN-IM this morning in New Delhi. During the 15 minute meeting that commenced at 11:10 this morning, the CSO representatives presented the Prime Minister with a leiyum fee, a statue of Kanglasha and submitted a memorandum. They told Narendra Modi that the Frame Agreement has left the people of the state in utter confusion. They also told the Prime Minister that people are apprehensive despite the claim by the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers that the framework agreement will not affect the territorial integrity of Manipur as the details of the agreement is not revealed to the public. The Prime Minister told them that the People of Manipur should have faith in the Government of India and not to pay heed to rumours. He asserted that the Centre has its door wide open for the people of Manipur and it will discuss anything the people want. The team also maintained that even though the framework agreement does not affect Manipur, people of Manipur will not remain silent if the aftermath of the agreement disrupts the political scenario in the state. Modi urged the team to have faith in the words given by a Prime Minister. The team reminded of the Prime Minister of the Violent incident of June 18, 2001 and that anything against the interest of the people might lead to a more intense protest than that of 2001. The Prime Minister maintained that no conclusion will be reached without consultation with all concerned and against the interest of the people. He said the Centre is focussing on the development of North Eastern States.
Imphal, 26 December 2017 ( Evening News ) : The family of late MCS officer Rachel Ngailunwai Guite has appealed to the Government to look into her death stating that it could have been prevented. Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, the elder sister of Rachel’s husband, Florence N. Lowe made a fervent appeal to private hospitals to focus on saving the lives of patients rather than commercialising the hospitals. She asserted that the hospital management, doctors and nurses should be held responsible for her death. She also appealed for improvement in the quality of medical care in the State to save the lives of people. Florence also urged the health and family welfare minister to convene an emergency session of the assembly to pass a bill to reform the health and medical facilities. She appealed to the Chief Minister to provide support to the children and family of Rachel. Florence also urged authorities of Suba Hospital and Raj Medicity to understand the expectations of the paients and improve their emergency facilities. It may be mentioned MCS officer Rachel Ngailunwai Guite died in the ICU of Raj Medicity on the 17th of this month after she was shifted from Suba Hospital at Lamphel unconscious after having delivered a twin. MLA Vungzagin Valte also urged the Chief Minister to provide the salary and allowances till the end of her tenure to her children and family.
Imphal, 24 December 2017 ( Evening News ) : Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, chief minister Nongthombam Biren, deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar and several ministers have greeted the people of Manipur on the eve of Christmas. In her message the governor said Lord Jesus was a true messenager of the almighty sent with the objective to bring a new world based on truth, humility, sacrifice, eqaulity, compassion and peace. She said she joins the celebration and wishes the people a very merry christmas.
Chief minister Nongthombam Biren in his message said christmas is celebrated with gaiety and fervour to mark the birth of Lord Jesus Christ. He wished that the festival brings peace, harmony and prosperity in the state.
Deputy chief minister Yumanm Joykumar also greeted the people on the occasion of christmas. In his message
Joykumar said Lord Jesus spread the message of peace, love and harmony to mankind and he sacrificed his life for the cause of mankind. He wished that the festival brings peace, harmony and harmony to the people of Manipur.
Works minister Thongam Biswajit in his christmas message said Christmas is celebrated cutting across religion, caste and creed and is a unifying agent. He hoped that the festival brings trust among communities living in the state.
MAHUT Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar also greeted the people especially the Christians on the eve of the festival.In his Christmas greeting, consumer affairs, food and public distribution minister Karam Shyam said as the world lights candles for Christmas this year, may the light of love, kindness and compassion glos in every heart and may peace and goodwill prevail in the midst of people.
Christmas carols were sung at the Raj Bhavan yesterday. Members of City Church, ECA, New Lambulane Imphal and children sang carols at Raj Bhavan.
Imphal, 23 December 2017 ( Evening News ) : Congress MLA Khumukcham Joykisan today lauded the role of media persons in the society. He said it will not be an exaggeration to say that journalists are the ones who work the most for the welfare of the people. The MLA was speaking at the death anniversary observance of Thangjam Dwijamani @ Nanao, a video journalist who was shot dead by Manipur Police while covering a violent incident in 2012. He said interference in the professional duties of journalists and burning of newspapers have portrayed Manipur like a undemocratic state. Joykisan lauded media persons for disseminating news on development and various issues in the state. Family members of Dwijamani, AMWJU members, journalists from different print and electronic media offered floral tribute to the late journalist at his memorial at Thangemiband Cheirao Ching since early morning.
Later Joykisan visited Ch. Netraj, a journalist of Ichel Express who is now undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital and extended financial help to him. Joykisan said he was extending help to Netraj as a mark of respect to journalists. He told media persons that the decision to submit the resolution of the assembly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect the integrity of the state is not enough. Joykishan maintained MLAs led by the Chief Minister must meet the Prime Minister at the centre to get assurance that integrity of the state will be protected. He termed it unfortunate that no ruling MLAs raised the issue of protection of indigenous people in the Assembly. He said people might have suspended their agaitation for the IPL bill as they have now realised that the state govt will not pass the bill. Joykishan once reiterated the stand of the Congress Party to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Imphal, 19 December 2017 ( Evening News ) : The State Cabinet yesterday approved 32 lakh 42 thousand and 300 Rupees compensation for 10 victims of violent incidents in Nungei area on April 11 last year. The Cabinet also discussed the allotment of land for development of Water Body at Lamphelpat for conservation of water to prevent frequent floods in and around Lamphel areas. The State Cabinet decided to complete the process of land allotment of 442.24 acres of land which is currently available for the development of Water Body within a week. It also agreed on creation of two temporary supernumerary post of OSD (Forest and Environment) and four temporary posts of Additional Director General of Police. It also approved completion of the DPC proceedings for Direct Recruitment of 20 vacant posts of Primary Teachers in respect of Meritorious Sportspersons under Department of Education (Schools). The meeting gave consent to the proposal for modification of the present Warrant of Precedence in Manipur.
Imphal, 18 December 2017 ( Evening News ) : Youth Affairs & sports Minister, Letpao Haokip has assured to increase sports budget to avail better incentives to sports persons of the state from next budget session. The Minister made the statement at equipment distribution event to football clubs organised by Four Corners Unite, Mumbai and Eastern Sporting Union at Eastern Sporting Youth Complex, Palace Compound today. Football training kits and equipments were distributed to 40 football Clubs including clubs from hill districts at the event.The minister expressed that though Manipur is a small state, her contribution in the field of sports to the country is significant . Players from the state have brought various laurels even at the International arena representing India. He also complimented sportspersons of the state for thier immense skills and their quick learning ability.
Imphal, 17 December 2017 ( Evening News ) : The International Fortnight Day Observation for elimination of Crime against women that kicked off on November 25th concluded today at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong. The observance was jointly organised by Women Action For Development, Centre Of Social Development, United Ngos Mission Manipur, New Life Foundation and Youths’ Forum For Protection Of Human Rights. Two Reporters on Crime and Violence against women were also honoured with the Best Reporter Award at the closing event . Art & Culture Minister, L. Jayentakumar presented the award to Reporter of Poknapham daily, Bigyan Sagolsem and Senior Reporter of Huiyen Lanpao, Bijoy Laishram. The award carries a Cash award of 30 thousand and 20 thousand Rupees respectively and a citation each. Speaking on the occasion, Minister, Jayentakumar said discussions and measures to be taken to stop crime against women and children will be unending . However it is required to bring about a solution. He said that there is a big change between the present Manipur and Manipur 20-30 years ago. Treatment meted out to women in present day is petrifying. He said that there is lack of respect and discipline among the youth of the state today. The wayward attitude of the youth have led to various issues in the state. Jayentakumar said we need to collectively fight against crime against women that the State Government is also working the best it can. Minister, L. Jayentakumar also released a book ,“Tales Of Tribulation” on the occasion.
