Imphal, 08 May 2016 : Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani today reiterated that the 3 bills passed by Manipur assembly to protect the indigenous people are not anti-tribal. Speaking at a press meet at his residence the senior advocate called for an open debate in presence of the national media to clear the misunderstanding about the 3 bills passed by the assembly. Drawing the attention of those who opposed the 3 bills, Khaidem Mani urged the people to voluntarily withdraw the bills if they are found to be anti tribal in the open debate or jointly pressurise the Centre to give consent to the bills if they are not anti tribal. He said the JCILP has resumed its agitation due to negligence of the govt. He said the state govt should have urged the president to give his assent sooner. Mani also stressed that tribal leaders of the state are aware that the 3 Bills are not anti tribal.
People commemorate Mao incident of May 6, 2010, offer tribute to the students who died in the movement
Imphal, 06 May 2016 ( Evening News) : Mao Council, All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur and Mao Students’ Union under the aegis of United Naga Council today observed the 6th Death Anniversary of Neli Chakho and Dikho Lohrii at Mao Gate Martyrs Park, in Senapati. United Naga Council reiterated that no force can compromise the identity, culture, tradition and land of Naga under any circumstances. Attendees at the observance paid floral tribute to the 2 students and also held a mass prayer. Speaking on the occasion, UNC President Gaidon Kamei stated that the fateful incident of May 6, 2010 in the Naga integration movement where 2 students lost their lives and many were injured many is still fresh in the mind of every Naga. The supreme sacrifice made by the 2 students will consolidate the Naga integration movement. Gaidon Kamei also added that divisive and communal Govt of Manipur can never suppress the movement and appealed to all the Naga people to remain united in the protracted struggle of the Naga integration movement. Mao MLA, representative of ANSAM, Naga Hoho, naga Women Organisation, NPP, NSF, NSCN-IM and general public took part in the observance.
Imphal, 06 May 2016 ( Evening News ) : Life came to a standstill in the valley of the state as people remained indoors in support of the 42 -hour public curfew imposed by the joint committee on inner line permit system, JCILPS. The public curfew came into effect from last midnight. Imphal and its neighbouring areas wore a deserted look on the first day of the curfew as markets, shops, business establishments and educational institutes remained closed. Volunteers of JCILPS placed tree branches, logs and burnt tyres on the roads since early morning to prevent people's movement.
Many areas on Uripok Kangchup road witnessed volunteers prevent movement of both pedestrians and vehicular traffic by blocking the road. Supporters of the curfew erected barricades on Dingku road, from Khurai Lamlong till Porompat. While some voiced their support for the movement of the Joint Committee, some others voiced their grievances they faced during the agitation.
Curfew supporters burnt tyres and blocked the road on Imphal-Tiddim road. Sources said an MSF volunteer was detained by police for supporting curfew at Top Leirak. Curfew supporters blocked Sagolband Tera road by placing electric poles and logs. They also chanted slogans demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the state and prevention of non-indigenous people to cast their votes. The public curfew was however relaxed for medical emergency, media persons and other essential services. The curfew will end at 6 pm tomorrow.
The 42-hour public curfew also hit life in Yairipok Bazar. All commercial establishments and educational institutions remained closed in view of the curfew. At Angtha, Angtha Apunba Meira Paibi and BYO Angtha blocked the roads by placing logs, tree branches and burning tyres.
Bandh has been relaxed for the students in view of the AIMPT exam and Meitei mayek examination
Imphal, 01 May 2016 : The bandh along Singjamei to Lilong road has been relaxed for the students in view of the AIMPT exam and Meitei mayek examination and competition to be held tomorrow. JAC and the locals took the decision to relax bandh for the students appearing for the said examinations at a meeting held at Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai Community Hall, but the bandh will remain in effect for others. The meeting also resolved to call for a Manipur bandh if the government do not release the post mortem report and take action against the culprits.
Earlier in the day, people blocked the road from Singjamei to Lilong on Imphal Moreh national highway in connection with the death. Members of the JAC placed logs on the road preventing people's movement. It may be recalled that Prasanta was found hanging from a tree on the morning of April 26 on the bank of the Imphal river near Teramakhong government primary School in Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai.

Imphal, 01 May 2016 : People took out a Meira rally last night to protest govt's delay in solving the alleged murder of B. Pittaranjan Sharma alias Korabin from Nongmeibung who was found dead Langkhong khul under Kashom Khullen Police Station in Ukhrul District. The rally organised by the JAC against Pittaranjan's death began from Nongmeibung Traffic Point and went around Porompat Soibam Leikai.
JAC Against Brutal Killing of B. Pitaranjan Sharma alias Korabin held a sit in at New Checkon today. Speaking to media persons JAC spokesperson expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s negligence on the case and resolved to close educational institutions and offices in Imphal East. She said the JAC wants the truth in the death case and they have met the Chief Minister and the Home Minister but the government has not taken any action in the case. Jina also accused the government of neglecting the public issues.
Imphal, 1 may 2016 : One day media sensitisation workshop on crime against women with special reference to suicide cases/suspicious death of women in Manipur was held today at the classic hotel. The workshop organised by Women Action For Development aimed at seeking strategic suggestions and inputs from editors to improve criminal justice. Victims of crimes against women shared their testimony at the workshop. Resource persons spoke on ‘media report on suicidal cases’, ‘recent trend of suicide in Manipur and medical legal aspect’, ‘psychological aspect in suicidal cases, legal procedure/perspective on suicidal cases’ and role of NGOs in dealing with crime against women. Speaking to media persons secretary of WAD, Sobita Mangsatabam stated that 188 cases of crimes against women were reported from January till 29 April 2016. Death of 368 women was reported from 2011 till 2015 and most of the victims did not get justice till now. She also appealed to media persons to follow cases after reporting them in their newspapers for speedy delivery of justice.
Imphal, 18 ( Evening) April 2016 : Angry locals of Wangkhei Hijam Leirak, Imphal East last night attacked the Panthou Eisei Konung accusing 45-year-old Panthou of encroaching the land where Meira Paibi Shang is constructed. Large number of locals stormed the Panthou Eisei Konung at around 8.30 last night and attacked vehicles parked near the Panthou's house. Three cars including properties were damaged in the attack. It is reported that Hijam Ratan popularly known as Panthou along with his disciples tried to put up a fence near the land where Hijam Leirak Meira Paibi Leisem Lup Shang. Locals erupted in anger after Panthou’s disciples tried to occupy and remove the Meira Paibi Leisem Lup Shang. The matter escalated after Panthou’s elder brother Hijam Sarat physically assaulted W. Narsingh and W. Purnimashi. A large number of locals than attacked the Panthou’s house damaging vehicles and properties. Speaking regarding the incident, Hijam Leirak Meira Paibi Leisem Lup, Secretary, Thongam Chitra said Panthou is challenging the locals by trying to grap the land of Meira Paibi Leisem Lup Shang is built. Meanwhile a public meeting was held this morning regarding the incident. The locals have decided to boycott Panthou unless and until he apologises to the locality. The locals have also decided to stop devotees of Panthou from entering the Panthou Eisei Konung until the matter is resolved.
Imphal, 4 April 2016 : The people of Nongshum Khull in Khundrakpam A/C today blocked the roads from ‘Khamelok to Imphal’ and ‘Hongmahn to Imphal’ protesting frequent threats by Kuki Liberation Army - KLA which is a signatory to Suspension of Operation with the govt. Villagers of Nongshum Khull consisting of young and old men are guarding the village at night along with their licence guns in fear that KLA cadres will attack the village. Villagers told media persons about the atrocities of the KLA cadres on the villagers. Villagers said they blocked the village roads after receiving information of KLA cadres arriving at Sinai Camp. The closure of the roads have affected people living in interior Kuki villages in Saikul A/C. Vehicles including two wheelers are not allowed to move on the blocked roads. JAC Against the Torture of Nongshum Village by KLA, KNO Convenor, Kongjengbam Ibungobi said they will impose economic blockade in case govt fails to resolve the issue with the Kuki village chiefs.
