Bangladesh will be hosting the 6th Edition of Asian Men's Hockey Championship at Dhaka’s Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium this December.
Arrangements are underway for the championship to be held under aegis of Asian Hockey Federation.The decision was taken during a meeting of Executive Councils of Asian Hockey Federation after the Tournament has been halted three times since last November due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Six Teams comprising of host Bangladesh, India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea are competing in the championship. It may be mentioned that India and Pakistan had each bagged Three Times Championship title of the Asian Men's Hockey Championship.
Manipur's players and officials who participated at the 11th National Kudo Championship & 1st Federation Cup 2021 have been felicitated. Kudo International Federation India organised the recently concluded Championship hosted by Himachal Pradesh.
Epa Pokpa Apokpa Ema Malem Apokpi (EPA EMA) Yourabung, Yourabung Village Development Committee (YVDC) and Yourabung Nishaband Meira Paibi (YNMP) jointly organised the fleicitation event at Chingkhei Ningthou Haraobung Yourabung.

MMA fighter Dinesh Naorem returns home to a rousing reception; Dinesh bagged one Gold and one silver at GAMMA Asian MMA championship 2021
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter from Manipur Dinesh Naorem who bagged a Gold medal and a Silver medal at the GAMMA (Global Association of Martial Arts) Asian MMA Championship 2021 returned home to a rousing welcome today. The Championship was held in Kyrgyzstan from August 24 to 28.
MMA fighter Dinesh Naorem is the eldest child of Naorem Yaima and Naorem ongbi Monbi Devi from Kakching Makha Lou, Manipur. He bagged a Gold Medal in 56.7 Kg category of Mixed Martial Arts MMA and a Silver in the Striking MMA event of the recently concluded championship.
Kakching Runners and Agenda Kakching (Whatsapp Group) members gave him a warm reception at the Imphal International Airport and headed together for his hometown this afternoon. Overjoyed residents of his birthplace, friends and fans came out on streets with shouts of joy and garlanded him.
Government of Manipur has announced cash rewards for prospective medal winners in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics from Manipur. Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren today announced that the State government will hand over cash award of Rs. 1.2 crore to gold medallists, Rs. 1 crore for silver medal winners and Rs. 75 lakhs for bronze medal winners in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics from the State.
The Chief Minister made the announcement at the launch of Selfie Point to cheer Indian Olympic contingents at Chief Minister’s Secretariat this afternoon. N. Biren also announced that the government will give a cash incentive of Rs. 25 lakh to all the five participants from Manipur who are representing the country in the Olympic Games. He wished success to all the five athletes on behalf of the people of Manipur.
It maybe mentioned that 5 sportspersons from Manipur namely- Shanglakpam Nilakanta will be representing India in the Olympic Games for the first time in Hockey, Sushila Pukkhrambam for the 2nd time in Hockey, Sushila Likmabam for the first time in Judo, Saikhom Mirabai for the 2nd time in Weightlifting and 38 year old, MC.Mary Kom, who bagged Bronze Medal in London Olympic Games 2012, will be participating in the Games for the 2nd time in the Boxing event.

Another sportsperson of Manipur has been selected for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games 2021. Judo player of Manipur Likmabam Sushila has been selected to take part in the upcoming Olympic Games.
Sushila is the daughter of L.Manihar and Chaoba Devi of Heingang Mayai Leikai. She was born on February 1st, 1995. Likmabam Sushila had keen interest in sports right from her childhood days and she took up Judo sport eventually. She bagged laurels at various National level Championships since 2005 and then made her presence in the international arena since 2008. Sushila bagged a Gold Medal in the 2011 Asian Youth Judo Championship hosted by Lebanon where she also bagged the Best Judoka title.
Likmabam Sushila is the third sportsperson from Manipur after Sushila Chanu and Sh. Nilakanta to have been selected for the upcoming 32nd Summer Olympic Games to be hosted by Japan from July 23 till August 8, 2021.
Manipur joined the World in observing International Olympic Day 2021 today. The day was initially observed to promote the idea of the Olympics and in order to celebrate the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This committee was formed on June 23, 1894 in Sorbonne, Paris.
Manipur Olympic Association organised "Olympic Day Run' at Olympic Bhavan in Khuman Lampak Sports Complex to mark the occasion. MOA Senior Vice President- Dr.GA.Ibopishak Sharma, General Secretary- Sunil Elangbam and many members of the Association took part in the event. It maybe mentioned that the Day is being observed in the State since 2002, with a long run which marks the day, participated by many players and sports gurus. However, this year the event was subdued owing to the prevailing COVID-19 situation. It was held by abiding necessary COVID-19 related SOPs issued by the State Government.
Speaking to media, MOA Senior Vice President- Dr.GA. Ibopishak Sharma noted that Manipur is world famous for its remarkable contribution in the field of sports. He urged the public to extend their support to the Sports fraternity to facilitate in producing more efficient players from Manipur.
Shanglakpam Nilakanta Sharma is soon to create history as the 18th Olympian from Manipur. The Hockey player has been selected to participate in the Summer Olympic Games 2021.
Hockey India today selected 16 team members for participating in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics including one Goal Keeper, 5 Defenders, 5 Mid-Fielders including Sh.Nilakanta Sharma and 5 Forward players. They will represent India in the upcoming 32nd Olympics scheduled to be held from July 23 till August 8 in Tokyo, Japan.
Nilakanta was born on May 2, 1995. He hails from Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai in Imphal East District and was trained at Posterior Hockey Academy Manipur. He has been actively playing Hockey since 2003.
The Group B match between Denmark and Finland resumed at 12 AM after a long suspension due to Eriksen's medical emergency.
Finland had a debut to remember as they defeated Denmark 1-0 with a score by Pohjanpalo at 60th minute, the first tournament goal for Fins.
Saturday's Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen was suspended after Denmark's Star Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch in the first half. Players signalled for medical team as Eriksen remained motionless and fans across the world undoubtedly remain upset. Match resumed at 12 AM (IST) following the request of players from both teams and after news of Eriksen being stabilised in hospital. Jansen replaced Eriksen.
