Imphal, 16 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Scrutiny of the nominations for the first phase of the 11th Manipur Legislative assembly elections is going on in various districts. Candidates were seen coming to the offices of the returning officers with their supporters. In Imphal east scrutiny began at 10am and candidates of 22 constituencies were present during the scrutiny. Several roads in the district witnessed traffic jam as candidates of different political parties and their supporters came to the office of the DC Imphal east at Porompat. The party is yet to announce the candidates for Lamshang and Bishnupur. Like the Congress party the BJP has also fielded two women candidates in reserved constituencies. Imphal, 02 February 2017 : Former minister and Thongju MLA Bijoy Koijam has asked the Congress and BJP to stop war of words and instead focus on resolving the UNC's economic blockade. Imphal, 26 January 2017 : The Election Commission has asked political parties and leaders not to use the pictures of President, Vice President and State Governors in their election posters. In a letter to the leaders of political parties, the poll body has asked them to advise their candidates and leaders to desist from such acts in their election campaigns. The Commission said, President, Vice-President and Governors are Constitutional Authorities and are completely apolitical and they should not be associated with any poll campaign. The 7th National Voter’s Day was celebrated across the country under the theme “Empowering Young & Future Voters”.
