Imphal, 5 April 2016 : More than 300 trucks loaded with PDS items are stranded on the road, due to full capacity in FCI godown. The truck drivers are now worried that due to rains the PDS items will be spoilt. FCI Officials are unable to give permission for unloading of PDS items as the godown is in full capacity. 361 trucks along with drivers and handyman are on the roadside in front of Sangaiprou FCI godown for more than a month now. Trucks carrying the PDS items mainly rice and wheat from Jiribam arrived in the state on Feb 28 this year. Due to rains in past couple of days drivers and handy-men are facing problems due to lack of proper shelter. Today All Manipur Road Transport Driver’s and Motor Workers Union drew the attention of authority concerned to allow them to unload the food items at the Sangaiprou FCI godown within 2 days. The Union threatened that in case their demand is not met than they will protest along with the truck drivers.
