Women vendors occupy temporary market sheds
Imphal, 4 April 2016 : In the midst of confusion and rain, women vendors this morning occupied the temporary market sheds constructed on the western side of Johnstone Higher Secondary School and carried on their business. Since early morning women vendors of the Luxmi Market and New market turned up at the temporary market and waited for their turn. Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Co-operation A. Nimai Sharma, Revenue Officer Sarda Manorharmayum, Bazar Board Chairperson Y. Ratikanta helped in the allotment of the seats to the the women vendors. It may be recalled that the two Kwairamband Keithel were damaged in the Jan 4 earthquake this year displacing thousands of women vendors. The women vendors carried on their business under the Bir Tikendrajit flyover and roadsides on the BT road before they reoccupied the two damaged markets as the last resort. IMC officials said the temporary market sheds will be dismantled after restoration of the Luxmi Market and New market is completed.
Imphal, 2 April 2016 : 9 persons including 5 women were injured in a fight between 2 villages in Chandel District headquarters over land dispute this morning around 6. The injured are admitted at SHIJA Hospitals and the condition of 3 of them are said to be critical. Sources said about 150 heavily armed villagers of Lambung village led by the village chief came to Mantripantha village in the morning and vandalised the fences of houses. Villagers of Mantripantha were attacked with sticks and knives when they tried to stop the advancing Lambing villagers who even fired in the air. Chandel police rushed to the spot and put the situation under control. District administration also clamped section 144 of CrPC in the area. Chandel MLA, Victor Nunglung visited the injured who are mostly villagers of Mantripantha.
Imphal, 31 March 2016 : The sessions judge Imphal west M. Manojkumar Singh also did not allow the accused Th. Herojit Singh to make any disclosure. In the order issued today the sessions judge maintained that the court is not in a position to allow the accused Th. Herojit to make any disclosure whatever he wants at this stage of trial. The order said he has to wait till his examination under section 313 Cr PC. The order said it is settled principle of law that recording of confessional statement under section 164 Cr PC shall be made during the period of investigation only and it cannot be done after the commencement of trial. It may be recalled that the accused head constable Th. Herojit requested the district and sessions court on the 24th of last month to allow him make confessional statement on the Sanjit Rabina fake encounter case. The counsels for Herojit and Taratombi left the court soon after the cases were dismissed.
Wife of accused SI Birjit refutes media report that she and the deceased had extra marital affair
Imphal, 312 March 2016 : In a new development in the murder of Laishram Naopak of Kwakeithel Moirangpurel, RK Dolly - wife of the accused police Sub Inspector, Laishram Birjit today came out and spoke about the incident in front of media. Addressing media persons at a club at Khuyathong Pukhri Achouba, RK Dolly refuted the media report of an extra-marital affair between the her and the deceased person Laishram Naopak as “baseless”. Some media reports claimed that SI Birjit killed his cousin because he was allegedly having an affair with his wife. RK Dolly further said her husband’s behaviour changed after he returned from Shillong after receiving police training. She said after an incident on Feb 6 her husband was consulting a psychiatrist.
Additional S.P, Imphal West, Th. Vikramjit today conducted search operation at PWD Complex.
Imphal, 31 March 2016 : A commando team led by Additional S.P, Imphal West, Th. Vikramjit today conducted search operation at PWD Complex. The operation was held to prevent unidentified persons disturbing the works at the Department at the end of the Financial Year. Employees of the PWD and other departments located at the complex were identified. 20 persons who did not have proper identification papers were taken to Police Station for further verification. During the search operation police seized 14 foreign liquor bottles and 20 litres of country liquor from the shops open in the complex. The liquor was destroyed inside the complex. Additional S.P, Th. Vikramjit warned the shop owners not to sell liquor in the complex again.
Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee temporary suspends indefinite bandh in Churachandpur;
Imphal, 29 March 2016 : The Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee - KSDCC has temporary suspended the indefinite bandh imposed in Churachandpur district. The KSDCC termed the inauguration of controversial Kangvai SDO/BDO office by Churachandpur DC as highly sensitive and sentimental issue. KSDDC and local people also announce boycott of T. Manga Vaiphei, MLA of Henglep A/C for betraying his people, undermining the voice of the people who elect him and hurting their sentiments beyond redemption. The Committee also said they will never recognise the inauguration of Kangvai SDO/BDO office. It said they will will not give any cognizance to the SDO/BDO which has been established against the wishes of the people by suppressing democratic voice of the people by the State govt. The KSDCC said they will continue their fight for justice. Meanwhile during the indefinite bandh in the morning state police arrested 60 bandh supporters. The impact of the indefinite bandh was severely felt at Kwakta along Imphal-Churachandpur Road and Churachandpur District Head Quarters. The indefinite bandh has been called by KSDDC demanding review of Cabinet decision to rename Thangting Subdivision as Kangvai Subdivision. The committee is also demanding renaming the new subdivision as Khousabung Subdivision with its headquarters at Khousabung.
Water tanker rams into four vehicles at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai; one man is killed on the spot while 3 others are injured
Imphal, 29 March 2016 : A person was killed while three others were injured in an accident at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai in Khabeisoi under Imphal East. The accident occurred at around 11 this morning. The deceased person is identified as Md. Azmir Khan alias Boboy Mayangang-bam, 24 years, son of Ayub Khan from Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai. According to reports received from the spot, Boboy along with others were collecting money from commuters in connection with the Yaoshang Sports Festival at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai when a water tanker with registration number MN05-3744 hit him after hitting four vehicles. The water tanker hit one Chevrolet Aveo car and three honda active. The water tanker crushed a Honda Activa under its wheel and dragged it 20 feet to rammed into a tree. Boboy died on the spot while two girls riding the Honda Activa and a girl who standing on the roadside were injured. They were rushed to JNIMS. Angry locals torched the water tanker and closed the road for sometime. Police personnel of Heingang Police Station rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
