Imphal, 24 March 2016 : On the 2nd day of the 6th All Manipur Working Journalist Union Sports Meet, Impact News bagged two gold in different categories played at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. In the Women’s 100 metre race - Thingnujam Reena of Impact bagged first position by clocking 18 sec, RK Rose of ISTV the 2nd and E. Babina of Sanaleibak the 3rd position. In the Women’s long jump event, Thingnujam Reena also bagged the first position, E. Babina of Sanaleibak bagged the 2nd place while Jayalaxmi of ISTV the 3rd place. In the Women’s shot-put event, E. Babina of Sanaleibak bagged the 1st place, K. Mary of Imphal Times bagged 2nd place while Tenshubam Ranita of Impact bagged the 3rd position. In the discuss throw event - E. Babina of Sanaleibak bagged 1st position, Thingnujam Reena of Impact bagged 2nd position and K. Mary bagged 3rd position. In the men’s shot-put event, Kshetrimayum Premchand of Impact bagged the 2nd position. Till the filing of this report Impact has bagged 2 gold while Sanaleibak, Sangai Express and ISTV won a gold each.

Imphal, 24 March 2016 : The 17-hour bandh called on Sagolmang to Imphal road by the JAC against the torture of Nungsum Village by the Kuki underground cadres has badly affected normal life in the area. The bandh which began this morning from 6am was called to protest the constant torture of the villagers by the cadres of KNA and KLA. Supporters of the bandh blocked the road by placing electric poles, logs and bamboos in the middle of the road. The JAC alleged that the Govt. has failed to response to the JAC’s appeal to look into the matter.  They also threatened to close down the Imphal Saikul road if the govt and the Kuki underground outfits fail to settle the issue.

Imphal, 24 March 2016 : The five day Yaoshang, the festival begins today in Manipur. People today burnt the small huts, Yaoshang specially erected for the day in different localities in the evening signalling the beginning of the five day festival of colours. The main function was held at the Shri Shri Govindajee Temple in Palace Compound. Believers offered fruits and aarti at the idol of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu after it was placed inside the well decorated Yaoshang. Later they set fire to the Yaoshang.  Similar scenes are also seen in different localities where people burnt  the huts in the evening. Children went door to door asking for Nakatheng in the evening.

The festival of colours, Yaoshang, which is considered as one of the most important festivals of Manipur begins today. The five day festival will be celebrated with traditional and religious fervour and gaiety in various parts of the state. This morning a large number of people including young boys and girls from different localities came to the sacred Kangla to light the torch for the Yaoshang sports being held during the festival. They came to the historic fort from the southern and western gate to light their torches at the Kangla Utra.

Imphal, 22 March 2016 : Sahitya Thoupang Lup Manipur organised World Poetry Day today at the Dave Literature Centre located at DM college. As part of the function, Sahitya Akademi awardee Khumanthem Prakash was awarded Gopal Sharma Award. During the function a book titled ‘Nungsi Laman’ authored by Sougaijam Kulabidhu was released today. The attendees at the function recalled the great works of Samurailatpam Gopal Sharma - founder of Poknafam Daily.
