9 persons including 5 women injured in a fight over land dispute between 2 villages in Chandel District, 144 Cr PC imposed in the area
Imphal, 2 April 2016 : 9 persons including 5 women were injured in a fight between 2 villages in Chandel District headquarters over land dispute this morning around 6. The injured are admitted at SHIJA Hospitals and the condition of 3 of them are said to be critical. Sources said about 150 heavily armed villagers of Lambung village led by the village chief came to Mantripantha village in the morning and vandalised the fences of houses. Villagers of Mantripantha were attacked with sticks and knives when they tried to stop the advancing Lambing villagers who even fired in the air. Chandel police rushed to the spot and put the situation under control. District administration also clamped section 144 of CrPC in the area. Chandel MLA, Victor Nunglung visited the injured who are mostly villagers of Mantripantha.
Gaikhangam insists that the reshuffle of cabinet is a family matter of the congress party
Imphal, 2 April 2016 : Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam is optimistic that the ruling Congress party will sweep the upcoming general Elections despite the disagreement among the party members. Replying to queries by media persons, the deputy chief minister said the people of Manipur have trust in the congress party and vote the party in the 2017 general elections. He asserted that the Congress will again form the government in the state. Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the 62nd foundation day of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Gaikhangam further said there is no groupism in the congress party. When inquired about the reshuffle of the government, he replied that it is family matter of the congress party.
Chief minister Okram Ibobi likely to reshuffle cabinet by April 9; will meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi on April 3
Imphal, 2 April 2016 : Chief Minister Okram ibobi Singh is likely to replace all his cabinet ministers to solve the internal crisis of the Congress party. According to sources the reshuffle is likely to take place by April 9. Impact News has also learnt that Chief minster Okram ibobi Singh, Deputy CM Gaikhangam and Newly appointed MPCC President TN Haokip will leave for Delhi on April 3 with the list of the names of new ministers for approval by AICC president Sonia Gandhi. Today a meeting of the congress party was held at the CM's bungalow at 10 in the morning and another round of meeting at around 4pm. Those who attended the include PHED Minister I Hemochandra, Education Minister M Okendro and Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa. If the list of new ministers is approved by Sonia Gandhi then the reshuffling will have to take place before April 9 as notification for Imphal Municipal Corporation election is expected on or after April 9. If the notification is out on April 9 then the election code of conduct will prevent any political activity as per Election code of conduct. It may be mentioned that all ministers have threatened Chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh that if he drops even one from the ministry the incumbent ministers will resign en-masse. The dissident MLAs are demanding cabinet reshuffle. Chief minister Okram ibobi singh had assured cabinet reshuffle in mid-term of the govt. during the time of govt. formation.
Sessions Judge says the court is not in a position to allow Herojit to make any disclosure at this stage of trial, he has to wait till his examination
Imphal, 31 March 2016 : The sessions judge Imphal west M. Manojkumar Singh also did not allow the accused Th. Herojit Singh to make any disclosure. In the order issued today the sessions judge maintained that the court is not in a position to allow the accused Th. Herojit to make any disclosure whatever he wants at this stage of trial. The order said he has to wait till his examination under section 313 Cr PC. The order said it is settled principle of law that recording of confessional statement under section 164 Cr PC shall be made during the period of investigation only and it cannot be done after the commencement of trial. It may be recalled that the accused head constable Th. Herojit requested the district and sessions court on the 24th of last month to allow him make confessional statement on the Sanjit Rabina fake encounter case. The counsels for Herojit and Taratombi left the court soon after the cases were dismissed.
Court dismisses Taratombi's application for further investigation by CBI in Sanjit-Rabina fake encounter case
Imphal, 31 March 2016 : The Sessions Judge, Imphal west M. Manojkumar Singh today dismissed the application filed by Ch. Taratombi, the mother of late Chungkham Sanjit for further investigation by the CBI into the Sanjit-Rabina fake encounter case. In his order issued today the judge said the application filed by the mother of the deceased Ch. Sanjit for directing the CBI to further investigation under section 173(8) Cr PC is dismissed. The judge in his 37-page order stated that the CBI after completion of investigation has submittes charge sheet against 9 accused persons and the court has framed charges against the said 9 accused persons and the trial has been commenced. The order said during the trial 75 witnesses were already examined out of 254 listed witnesses. It mentioned that no application is being filed from the CBI who investigated the case seeking permission for further investigation of the case on the basis of the alleged disclosure by the accused Th. Herojit Singh till date even though they have power to proceed further investigation under section 173(8) Cr PC.
