Former speaker TN Haokip appointed president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee
Imphal, 30 March 2016 : Congress president Sonia Gandhi today appointed T.N. Haokip as the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, MPCC. TN Haokip will replace Gaikhangam who is also the Deputy Chief Minister. The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting of All India Congress Committee. TN Haokip who represents Saikot assembly constituency in Churachandpur district was the Speaker of the 8th Manipur State Assembly.
30-year old police sub inspector shoots first cousin at Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai, surrenders at Singjamei police station
Imphal, 30 March 2016 : In a shocking incident a 30-year old man shot his first cousin at Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai today. The deceased has been identified as Laishram Naopak, 26 son of Laishram Govind, while the alleged killer has been identified as Laishram Veerjit, son of Dr. Ranbir Laishram. Govind and Dr Ranbir are brothers. The accused is presently under probation as Sub Inspector in Manipur Police department. According to the family of the deceased, Naopak was taken by his cousin Veerjit in a Maruti Suzuki Swift car around 11am and later came to know about his death from the police. Police sources said Veerjit brought the dead body of Naopak around 1.20pm to Singjamei Police Station and surrendered himself. Naopak was shot in the chest and right thigh. Residents of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai vandalised some portion of the house of the accused but police personnel controlled mob. The reason for the killing is not yet known. A case has been registered at Singjamei Police Station.
Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee temporary suspends indefinite bandh in Churachandpur;
Imphal, 29 March 2016 : The Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee - KSDCC has temporary suspended the indefinite bandh imposed in Churachandpur district. The KSDCC termed the inauguration of controversial Kangvai SDO/BDO office by Churachandpur DC as highly sensitive and sentimental issue. KSDDC and local people also announce boycott of T. Manga Vaiphei, MLA of Henglep A/C for betraying his people, undermining the voice of the people who elect him and hurting their sentiments beyond redemption. The Committee also said they will never recognise the inauguration of Kangvai SDO/BDO office. It said they will will not give any cognizance to the SDO/BDO which has been established against the wishes of the people by suppressing democratic voice of the people by the State govt. The KSDCC said they will continue their fight for justice. Meanwhile during the indefinite bandh in the morning state police arrested 60 bandh supporters. The impact of the indefinite bandh was severely felt at Kwakta along Imphal-Churachandpur Road and Churachandpur District Head Quarters. The indefinite bandh has been called by KSDDC demanding review of Cabinet decision to rename Thangting Subdivision as Kangvai Subdivision. The committee is also demanding renaming the new subdivision as Khousabung Subdivision with its headquarters at Khousabung.
Water tanker rams into four vehicles at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai; one man is killed on the spot while 3 others are injured
Imphal, 29 March 2016 : A person was killed while three others were injured in an accident at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai in Khabeisoi under Imphal East. The accident occurred at around 11 this morning. The deceased person is identified as Md. Azmir Khan alias Boboy Mayangang-bam, 24 years, son of Ayub Khan from Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai. According to reports received from the spot, Boboy along with others were collecting money from commuters in connection with the Yaoshang Sports Festival at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai when a water tanker with registration number MN05-3744 hit him after hitting four vehicles. The water tanker hit one Chevrolet Aveo car and three honda active. The water tanker crushed a Honda Activa under its wheel and dragged it 20 feet to rammed into a tree. Boboy died on the spot while two girls riding the Honda Activa and a girl who standing on the roadside were injured. They were rushed to JNIMS. Angry locals torched the water tanker and closed the road for sometime. Police personnel of Heingang Police Station rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam says he is MPCC President on temporary basis
Imphal, 29 March 2016 : Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, today stated that replacement of MPCC President is an internal matter of the Party. Interacting with media after visiting ailing veteran politician and former Chief Minister of Manipur, Rishang Keishing at Sky Hospital, Gaikhangam said he was the first person to abide the principle of One Man One Post and he still firmly believes in the principle. Gaikhangam added that he resigned from Ministership in 2005 after Party High Command appointed him as the president of the state unit. However, he has been serving as the president of MPCC as party high command asked him to look after the party as president until someone fills in.
