Imphal, 25 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Responding to media query on the action to be taken by the Home Department in connection with the cancellation of the recruitment process for constables in police department held in 2013, Home Minister, Gaikhangam today said law will take its own course and nothing much can be said on the matter at this stage. Speaking to media after attending the Golden Jubilee celebration of ISKCON, at Sangaiprou, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said discrepancies were found in the physical efficiency test of the recruitment of 2000 police constables held in 2013 during an inquiry into the recruitment. He said the decision to cancel the recruitment was taken after thorough consideration. The deputy chief minister also added that a completely new recruitment will start from August 30 for the convenience of those who took part in the 2013 recruitment. Gaikhangam also appealed to them not to call for bandh or blockade and take advantage of the new recruitment.

Imphal, 24 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Indefinite bandh called by All Manipur Written Successful candidate of Police Constable Male 2013 did not have much impact on Imphal City, it badly affected areas in the outskirts of the city and other district headquarters of the state. Bandh supporters blocked roads at Lamphel Sana Keithel and Watham Leirak, Thangmeiband by burning tyres. Similar protest was also reported from Langdum Lamkhai under Imphal East. All business establishments were closed in Thoubal Athokpam, Yairipok, Wabagai, Bishnupur bazaar, Nambol and Sekmai.

Imphal, 24 August 2016 ( Evening News) : Both the chief minister and deputy chief minister today avoided to answer a question on the cancellation of recruitment of 2000 constables in Manipur police department held in 2013. Impact News asked Okram Ibobi and Gaikhangam about the govt's plan regarding the discrepancies in the recruitment and the indefinite Manipur bandh called by the candidates who took part in the recruitment on the sidelines of an event which was attended by both of them. O. Ibobi and Gaikhangam said they will answer the question in an appropriate time and declined to speak further.

Imphal, 24 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today emphasised the importance of information technology in every sphere. Okram Ibobi today launched the first e-District Project in Manipur at an event held at Imphal Hotel. In his speech Ibobi expressed the hope that the e-district will help the people living in far flung areas in the hills and valley in collecting information and essential documents from govt offices. He said people need not go to  District Head Quarters and DC Offices to get official documents. He also reiterated the role of the DCs and their staffs in ensuring  the benefits of the project among the people. He urged them to work sincerely to make the most out of the project. Ibobi said the  govt. is giving top priority to power sector to make the project successful. The chief minister also stated that even though the country aims to provide 24 hour power supply by 2020, Manipur aims to achieve the target by 2017. In his speech deputy chief minister Gaikhangam also emphasised the sincerity of the employees  to make the project a success. Under the project the people will be able to get their Income Certificate, Birth Certificate, Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribe certificates and register their names on Electoral Roll online.

Imphal, 24 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today asserted that the people of Manipur are at the crossroads.  Speaking at the inauguration of the 1st Manipur Educators Mind Set Workshop organised by Department of Higher and Technical Education Manipur and International Youth Fellowship (IYF), South Korea at Classic Grande, Gaikhangam said today the Manipuri society is completely confused as people lack discipline which often leads to turmoil. He said not only the teachers but  parents must guide the younger generation especially the students into the right path. The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the organisers of the workshop which he believes will help in shaping the society. Education Minister Dr. Kh. Ratan, IYF General Secretary Jae Hong Kim, IYF Odisha, Director Koo Yeon Kim, officials of state education department and volunteers of IYF took part in the event.

Imphal, 23 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : At least two persons were injured when police fired tear gas shells during a protest rally taken pot by candidates of police constables. A meeting and rally were today organised by the candidates whose DPC for recruitment to the posts of police constable 2013 was cancelled by the govt. They were protesting against the govt's decision to cancel the recruitment process. The meeting was held at Singjamei Top Leikai community Hall. The meeting resolved to file a case in the Supreme Court against the cancellation of DPC. After the meeting a large number of candidates took out the protest rally at Singjamei Super Market  on Indo-Burma Road. The rally was intercepted by a large number police at Singjamei Chingngamakha Traffic island. The angry candidates pelted stones at police and in retaliation police fired tear gas shells and smoke bombs to control the situation.  During the commotion 2 candidates were injured and rushed to Advanced Hospital in Palace Compound. The injured persons are identified as N. Johnson from Naharup Pang-gong and T. Sobachandra from Thoubal Thokchom Village. N. Johnson is said to be in critical condition.  All the shops at Singjemei Super Market and Singjamei Bzar remained closed after the incident.

Imphal, 23 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Irom Chanu Sharmila has decided to launch a campaign against the Armed forces Special Powers Act, 1958, AFSPA in 30 different countries and other states of India. Sharmila who underwent fast for nearly 16 years demanding repeal of the act from Manipur was today produced in the court at Uripok Cheirap Court. Talking to media persons after she came out of the court, Sharmila reminded the people she decided to end her fast to adopt another strategy to fight against the AFSPA. She said she has been boycotted by mothers, several civil society organisations, after she decided to end her fast. The human rights activist maintained that she has the right to change her strategy and follow her heart and expressed her unhappiness at the disrespect shown by the people towards her decision.  Sharmila appealed to the people to support her fight against the AFSPA like mass support given to Anna Hazare when he fasted. The court today took her statement under IPC Section 309. She requested the court to dispose her case as she has ended her fast. The final hearing has been scheduled for September 5.

Imphal, 23 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : The High Court of Manipur today directed the Manipur government and the police department to remove the wanted tag on the former JCILPS covenor Khomdram Ratan. The division bench comprising of Justice Nongmeikapam Kotishwar and Justice Kh. Nobin today announced its verdict on the hearing of the case filed by Khomdram Ratan against the declaration of wanted  by police. The division bench today said the terms Wanted Criminal and absconder should be removed. The court also cautioned the police department to be very careful while issuing  Press releases. It may be recalled that the final hearing of the petition filed by Khomdram Ratan was held in the high court on the 16th of this month and the division bench of Justice Nongmeikapam Kotishwar and Justice Kh. Nobin reserved its verdict. Khomdram Ratan filed a case in the high court against the wanted declaration on June 27. The division bench had ruled that the case was maintainable on July 29 and the hearing began on August 2.

Imphal, 23 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Two earthquakes measuring 3.1 and 5.5 on the Richter scale shook Assam this morning forcing people to rush out of their houses in panic. There was no immediate report of any injury or damage to property due to the tremors. Met office (Meteorological Office) said the first quake of 3.1 intensity rocked Guwahati and other places of the state at 5.30 am. It had its epicentre in Karbi Anglong district. The second tremor of moderate intensity was at 7.41 am with its epicentre 23.8 north and 94.5 degree east in the Indo-Myanmar region at a depth of 100 km. A report from Shillong said a moderate intensity quake also rocked Meghalaya and most of the north eastern region including Imphal. Officials at the Regional Seismological Centre said the earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale occurred at around 7:11 am and its epicentre was traced to a depth of 100 km underneath the earth's crust in Myanmar but close to Manipur. There was no report of any casualty following the tremor which lasted for a few seconds only.

Imphal, 22 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : JAC of All Manipur Written Test Successful Candidate of Police Constable Male 2013 has appealed the govt to declare their viva voce results by August 25. Speaking at a press meet at Manipur Press Club the JAC spokesperson Md. Jaheer Khan strongly condemned the Cabinet’s decision to nullify the earlier recruitment and said that the government should not abuse their power in the name of governance. JAC appealed to withdraw the cabinet’s order. JAC also condemned over the Senapati District SP’s unruly behaviour during a rally organised at Senapati. It also condemned the police’s behaviour during the rally in Imphal. JAC further appealed to cancel the upcoming physical test for the new recruitment which is scheduled on the August 30 at MPTC, Pangei.
