Government of Manipur has announced cash rewards for prospective medal winners in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics from Manipur. Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren today announced that the State government will hand over cash award of Rs. 1.2 crore to gold medallists, Rs. 1 crore for silver medal winners and Rs. 75 lakhs for bronze medal winners in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics from the State.

The Chief Minister made the announcement at the launch of Selfie Point to cheer Indian Olympic contingents at Chief Minister’s Secretariat this afternoon. N. Biren also announced that the government will give a cash incentive of Rs. 25 lakh to all the five participants from Manipur who are representing the country in the Olympic Games. He wished success to all the five athletes on behalf of the people of Manipur.

It maybe mentioned that 5 sportspersons from Manipur namely- Shanglakpam Nilakanta will be representing India in the Olympic Games for the first time in Hockey, Sushila Pukkhrambam for the 2nd time in Hockey, Sushila Likmabam for the first time in Judo, Saikhom Mirabai for the 2nd time in Weightlifting and 38 year old, MC.Mary Kom, who bagged Bronze Medal in London Olympic Games 2012, will be participating in the Games for the 2nd time in the Boxing event.

Minister for YAS Letpao Haokip, Minister for CAF & PD Th. Satyabrata, Chairman PDA T. Robindro, MP (Rajya Sabha) Leishemba Sanajaoba, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam and officials of YAS department were present on the occasion.

 

 

Chief Minister Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren has expressed belief that there will be a feeling of oneness, peace, harmony and prosperity in the State when the Nongpok-thong (Eastern Gate) of the Kangla Fort is opened. The Chief Minister inspected the ongoing construction of the gate today. Speaking to media, Chief Minister Biren said that construction of the gate was taken after deliberate consultations with historians and experts. He said that the government has set a target of completing the construction of Nongpok-thong, footpath and recreational park by October this year.

Speaking on the sidelines, Chief Minister Nonthombam Biren also stated that the utmost priority of the government is to save precious lives during this pandemic. He appealed to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as it is the only means to protect and prevent from the dreaded disease as well as to follow all necessary precautions, preventive measures and COVID Appropriate Behaviour to overcome the disease.He sought for public cooperation and support for the success of the mass vaccination drive. He said that each one of us has the equal responsibility in the fight against the pandemic. 

Minister for CAF & PD  Th. Satyabrata, Chairman PDA T. Robindro, MP (Rajya Sabha) Leisemba Sanajaoba, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, DGP LM Khaute and other top ranking officials accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection visit.

Manipur reported more recoveries than new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
 
Out of the total 5, 357 samples tested during the last 24 hours in Manipur, 459 were detected positive for COVID-19 rising the State's COVID-19 tally to 60,311 out of which 8,443 are active cases. 16 Covid patients died in the last 24 hours and death toll stands at 990.  On the positive note, 499 COVID cured cases were reported in the past 24 hours, rising the total recoveries to 50,876. Manipur's recovery rate stands at 84.35%.
 
As per Manipur Directorate of Health Services and COVID-19 Common Control room press release on June 14 evening,  newly infected persons are 452 from the general population and 7 are personnel of Central Armed Police Force. Infected persons from the general population are 136 from Imphal West, 78 from Bishnupur, 77 from Thoubal, 39 from Imphal East, 29 from Kakching, 26 from Ukhrul, 22 from Churachandpur, 10 each from Chandel and Tamenglong, 9 from Senapati, 7 each from Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal and 2 from Pherzawl District.
 
While, the COVID-19 victims are 4 from Imphal West, 3 each from Imphal East, Thoubal and Churachandpur, 2 from Bishnupur and one from Kakching District.

Manipur COVID-19 Update 13 JUNE 2021

Manipur reported 530 new COVID-19 CASES and 15 Deaths in the last 24 hours. State's COVID-19 tally reached 59,852 out of which 8,499 are active cases and death toll climbed to 974. On the positive note, 726 COVID-19 Cured cases were reported in the last 24 hours rising the state's recovered cases to 50,379. Manipur's recovery rate stands at 84.17%.
 
As per Manipur Directorate of Health Services and COVID-19 Common Control room press release on June 13 evening,  newly infected persons are 528 from the general population and two are personnel of Central Armed Police Force. Infected persons from the general population are 170 from Imphal West, 79 from Imphal East, 60 from Bishnupur, 56 from Thoubal, 53 from Churachandpur, 41 from Chandel, 36 from Kakching, 19 from Jiribam, 7 from Ukhrul, 6 from Tamenglong and 1 from Noney district.
 
While, the COVID-19 victims are 7 from Imphal West, 2 each from Imphal East and  Bishnupur and one each from Kakching, Thoubal, Ukhrul and Jiribam District.

EURO 2020: WALES, SWITZERLAND 1-1 DRAW

Euro 2020 Wales vs Switzerland ended in 1-1 draw this evening. Breel Embolo opened the scoring for Switzerland by heading the ball in from a corner at the 49th minute. Kieffer Moore scored an equaliser for Wales with a short corner at the 74th minute.
