Drivers of passenger vehicles cease work in protest against parking ban at Keishampat
Imphal, 24 march 2017 ( Evening News ) : Drivers of private passenger vehicles ceased work in protest against the parking ban at Keishampat by the authority concerned. Transport department has asked them not to park their vehicles at Indo-Burma Sugnu Road bus parking, popularly known as Keishampat-Thoubal parking. The drivers said some staff of the Transport department came this morning at the parking in front of the BJP office and asked the drivers to not park their vehicles there. The drivers who were upset by the sudden order left the area leaving behind their vehicles in protest. They said they were not given prior information and no alternative arrangements were made. It may be mentioned that the then BJP Manipur Pradesh president had in 2015 asked the Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Bus owners welfare union to shift the parking location, however the association refused to do so. Secretary of the union has threatened to suspend all passenger bus services in Manipur if the matter is not solved at the earliest.
United bus owners Welfare Association has also expressed dissatisfaction at the order of the department. The association said, until a transport policy is framed, the area will be used as parking and drivers will continue park the passenger vehicles. General secretary of the Association, B. Dhanabir Sharma said they will support the protest by the Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Bus owners welfare union and also threatened to suspend all passenger bus services in Manipur.
