Imphal, 02 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : 14th Session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly began today. Day 1 of the Monsoon session concluded amid commotion and unrest in the state. Members of the Legislative Assembly condoled the death of Kishore Thapa who first won from Kangpokpi constituency in 1974 and served as the member of the House for 3 terms and also observed 2 minute silence as mark of respect to the deceased former-member of the house during the sitting which lasted for 31 minutes. Leader of the House, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh stated that Kishore Thapa was a leader who did not believe in differences in religion, caste, creed and culture. Chief Minister termed the demise of Kishore Thapa as a great loss for the state. Later, house unanimously endorsed 3 bills, 'The Manipur Technical University Bill 2016', 'The Dhanamanjuri University Bill 2015' and 'The Manipur State Higher Education Council 2016'. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh tabled the report of Panchayati Raj Institution and Urban Local Bodies, Comptroller and Auditor General and State Vigilance Commission in the house. Chief Minister also tabled the report of 19th Business Advisory Committee and the house unanimously agreed to select 7 members each of Public Accounts, Estimates and Public Undertaking Committee. Tadubi MLA Francis Ngajokpa and Jiribam MLA Thoudam Devendra due to health problems were absent today. While 4 Naga People’s Front MLA who had tendered resignation were also not present during the sitting.
