Southern Tangkhul Students’ Union Warns of Possible China Appeal Over Border Security

Imphal, September 29: The Southern Tangkhul Students’ Union has warned that it may seek protection from China and hoist Chinese flags in border areas if the Manipur and Central governments fail to protect indigenous communities living along the Indo-Myanmar border. Speaking at Manipur Press Club, Union President Yarchuiso Kashung condemned recent killings of Naga civilians in Tamenglong, Senapati and Pilong. He alleged that Myanmar-based KNA-B cadres crossed the border and attacked villages. Yarchuiso questioned the security arrangements in border areas and demanded greater deployment of forces. He also raised concerns over the movement of armed groups under the Suspension of Operations framework and called for stronger protection of border residents.

Okram Joy Urges Governor to Take Up Manipur Situation With Centre

Imphal, September 29: Veteran politician Okram Joy has urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to draw the Centre’s attention to the continuing violence in Manipur and strengthen discussion of state issues in the Assembly. Speaking to the media at his residence in Kakwa Huidrom Leikai, Joy said he recently met the Governor at Lok Bhavan and submitted a letter on the situation. He alleged that violence has continued despite government efforts. Joy also criticised what he described as insufficient preventive action and urged the Governor to intervene with the Centre. He said he had requested dissolution of the Assembly, but claimed the Governor indicated that its term would end without immediate dissolution.

IDPs Seek Release of Promised Financial Assistance and Jobs

Imphal, September 29: Internally displaced persons have urged the state government to release promised financial assistance at the earliest and provide suitable government employment to support their rehabilitation. Speaking at Manipur Press Club, Manipur Ema Internally Displaced Persons Chief Convener S. Kula Mangang said the government had assured Rs 1 lakh to each IDP family in three instalments. He said many displaced families from Churachandpur, particularly Saikot Block, were yet to receive the assistance. Kula said IDPs want peace, normalcy and the opportunity to return to their native homes. Ningthoujam Thoibi, currently staying at Bishnupur Old DC Complex Relief Camp, also appealed for release of the promised financial aid.

Patsoi MLA Calls for Public Cooperation to Restore Normalcy

Imphal, September 29: Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeshor has called for public cooperation in efforts to restore peace, harmony and normalcy in Manipur. He was speaking at an Angan Milan Seva programme organised under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan at Takyel Kolom Leikai Community Hall. Organised by BJP Patsoi Mandal, the programme included awareness sessions on nutrition and interactions with Anganwadi and ASHA workers. MLA Kunjakeshor said public participation in government welfare and development initiatives can contribute to restoring normalcy. He stressed the importance of collective efforts in implementing welfare programmes and development activities. The programme focused on community participation and awareness among grassroots-level workers.

Sekmai MLA Calls for Greater Public Trust in Elected Representatives

Imphal, September 29: Sekmai MLA Heikham Dingo has called for greater public trust in elected representatives and recognition of development and welfare initiatives undertaken by MLAs and ministers. Speaking at a programme organised by Lions Club, Senjam Khunou, Dingo urged elected representatives to work transparently and without discrimination. He said closer cooperation between the government and people can help advance development activities. RPI Athawale Leader Calls for Continuous Public Service Beyond Elections

Imphal, September 29: RPI Athawale National Secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has stressed that elected representatives should remain connected with the public beyond election periods. He was speaking at a programme at Keishampat Leikai in Keishamthong Assembly Constituency, where clothing items were distributed to elderly persons. Maheshwar said a people’s representative should remain accessible even after elections and continue working for social development. Referring to his own political experience, he said he has continued public service despite electoral defeats. NPP Says Commitment to Manipur’s Integrity and Development Remains Unchanged

Imphal, September 29: NPP National General Secretary (Political) Mmhonlumo Kikon has said politics should focus on guiding society with people rather than simply holding power or seeking higher positions. He was speaking at a programme at Ima Laikhurembi Laibung, Uripok Laikhurembi Leikai, where residents enrolled as primary members of the NPP under intending candidate Aribam Amarjit. Kikon said the party’s commitment to protecting Manipur’s territorial integrity, restoring normalcy and ensuring development remains unchanged. He said the NPP continues to attach importance to Manipur despite governing Meghalaya and noted that the party originated from Uripok Assembly Constituency. Imphal, September 29: NPP intending candidate Aribam Amarjit has said he entered electoral politics to address public hardships and work towards a better Manipur. Speaking at a party programme in Uripok, Amarjit said political parties blaming one another during elections does not benefit the public and stressed that the character and commitment of individuals are important. He said he joined the NPP after finding that the party could raise issues concerning Manipur at the Centre. Amarjit added that he would not remain with any political party that could not work in the state’s interest. His remarks came as the NPP enrolled new primary members in Uripok Assembly Constituency.

Meira Paibis Demand Action Over Alleged Derogatory Social Media Posts

Imphal, September 29: Meira Paibi members of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Constituency have demanded strict action against a 60-year-old man who is in police custody over alleged derogatory remarks against MLA S. Kebi on social media. Speaking during a protest meeting at Heirangoithong Community Hall, Meira Paibi leader S. Panthoi alleged that Paonam Dhaneshor of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai used a fake Facebook account to make lewd and derogatory posts. She said Dhaneshor was reportedly picked up by the Cyber Crime Unit in connection with the matter. Panthoi urged authorities to take action and appealed to social media users to refrain from such behaviour and respect women.

Jiribam Congress Aspirant Criticises MLA Over Development Remarks

Jiribam, September 29: Thoudam Budha, who is preparing to contest the 13th State Assembly Election from Jiribam as a Congress candidate, has criticised MLA Md. Achab Uddin over a reported statement that he lacks the power to fulfil people’s wishes. Speaking at a press meet in Jiribam Babupara, Budha alleged that the MLA had failed to translate the people’s mandate into development work. He called for avoiding divisive politics in the multi-community constituency and said the ongoing conflict should not prevent communities from living together peacefully. Budha expressed confidence that a Congress government would return to power after the next Assembly election and said he would work according to public aspirations if given the party ticket.

JFD Women’s Wing Seeks MLAs’ Continued Support for NRC Demand

Imphal, September 29: The Women’s Wing of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation has launched a campaign seeking renewed support from MLAs for its ongoing “No NRC, No Census” movement. Representatives met elected members including Sekmai MLA Heikham Dingo, Lamlai MLA Kh. Ibomcha, Khurai MLA L. Susindro Meitei, Keirao MLA L. Rameshwor Meetei and Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam. The JFD Women’s Wing submitted memorandums seeking deferment of the Census until NRC updation with 1951 as the base year. The memorandums also raised the demand for identification and deportation of persons alleged to have settled illegally in the state. According to JFD, the MLAs reaffirmed their support for the movement.

Students Continue JFD-Linked Agitation With Human Chains

Imphal, September 29: School students in different parts of Manipur continued an agitation under the banners “No NRC, No Census” and “No IDP Settlement, No Census” by forming human chains. Students of Twinkle Star Academy at Huirem Leikai in Imphal East, Thangal General Academy at Saiton, Paramount School in Bishnupur district, Sambanlei Sekpil School at Kumbi and Alpha BCI Memorial Academy in Imphal West participated in the demonstrations. The students raised slogans as part of the ongoing protest called by the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation. The campaign has been seeking deferment of the Census and other demands linked to NRC updation and the settlement of internally displaced persons.

Workshop Explores Media, Film and Entertainment Careers in Manipur

Imphal, September 29: An expert lecture and interaction programme on “Media, Film and Entertainment in Manipur: Contemporary Developments, Emerging Challenges and Career Pathways” was held at T.S. Paul Manipur Women’s College, Mongshangei. The programme was organised by the college’s Department of Mass Communication in collaboration with IQAC. College Governing Body Chairman Elangbam Dolendra, Secretary Oinam Priyokumar and Principal Kshetrimayum Devendra attended the event. Head of the Department of Mass Communication Dr Aribam Bishwajit said the programme aimed to help participants understand the changing media, film and entertainment landscape. He also stressed the importance of ethical practices among students and others preparing to enter the sector.

130th Hijam Irawat Celebration Held at Wangjing

Thoubal, September 29: The 130th Jananeta Hijam Irawat Celebration was held at the YVA Complex in Wangjing, jointly organised by the YVA Irawat Celebration Committee and Narengbam Ibotombi Memorial Trust. As part of the programme, dignitaries paid floral tributes at the statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat. Prizes were also distributed to winners of a spot painting competition organised for students in connection with the celebration. Former UNLF chairman R.K. Meghen, while paying tribute to Irawat, called for respect for his ideals of unity and love for the motherland. He also highlighted Irawat’s efforts towards building a society free from discrimination. The event marked the 130th birth anniversary of the leader.

Food Processing and Livestock Farming Training Course Concludes

Imphal, September 29: A seven-day Food Processing and Livestock Farming course organised by the Livelihood Business Incubator, Imphal West, concluded at the Directorate of Trade, Commerce and Industries, Lamphelpat. Director Hannah Kamei said development should begin at the grassroots and urged participants to use the knowledge and skills gained through the training to become successful entrepreneurs and contribute to the state economy. LBI Coordinator Thiyam Rameshwari said the course was designed to equip unemployed youth and existing entrepreneurs with advanced ideas and practical skills. Certificates were distributed to 24 participants at the concluding programme. The training focused on strengthening livelihood opportunities through food processing and livestock-related enterprises.

World Heart Day Observed at Khundrakpam

Imphal, September 29: The Senior Citizen Society and Health Worker Association, Khundrakpam, observed World Heart Day 2026 at Khundrakpam Makha Leikai Community Hall under the theme “Don’t Miss A Beat.” Society President Kh. Rajendro and Manipur’s first heart surgeon, Dr Kshetrimayum Kala, attended the programme. Participants took part in activities focused on maintaining heart health and pledged to adopt healthier practices. The observance aimed to create greater awareness of cardiovascular health and encourage preventive measures. World Heart Day is observed to highlight the importance of preventing heart disease and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Jiribam Chief Medical Officer Vinay Prasad Sahu, District Nodal Officer Dr Justin Haobam, District Programme Manager of NHM Jiribam Naorem Romenkumar, patients and hospital staff attended the event. Dr Justin Haobam delivered a presentation on heart attacks and preventive measures that can help save lives. Free screening for diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, along with ECG tests, was also conducted during the programme.

Bishnupur Senior Citizens Seek Restoration of Railway Fare Concession

Bishnupur, September 29: Senior Citizens for Society, Bishnupur, has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking restoration of railway fare concessions for senior citizens. The memorandum was submitted through the Additional District Magistrate, Bishnupur, in support of a demand raised by the All India Senior Citizens Confederation. The submission came ahead of the International Day of Older Persons on October 1. A delegation led by Joint Secretary Jugindro Mutua, President Thiyam Ibopishak, Vice President Laishram Biramani and member Haobijam Nimaichand submitted the memorandum. The organisation said the demand seeks restoration of the concession that had previously benefited senior citizens travelling by rail.

Seva Setu Abhiyan Held in Chakpikarong

Chandel, September 29: The Sub-Divisional Officer, Chakpikarong, under the Chandel District Administration, organised Seva Setu Abhiyan public welfare camps as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026. The programme was held under the theme “Service, Good Governance and Welfare of the Last Person.” Officials from various line departments participated in the camps and assisted beneficiaries in accessing government schemes and welfare benefits. The initiative was aimed at bringing government services closer to people and helping eligible beneficiaries understand and access available programmes. 327 Grams of Heroin Recovered From Abandoned Car

Imphal, September 29: Porompat Police Station personnel recovered 327 grams of heroin powder from an abandoned car at Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai. The A-Star car bearing registration number MN01-W-9822 was found parked on the roadside on September 28. According to police, a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 12 soap cases containing heroin powder inside a bag kept on the rear seat. The vehicle and suspected contraband were seized for further investigation. Police are continuing inquiries into the ownership of the vehicle and the source and intended destination of the recovered substance.

Two Arrested With 157 Grams of Heroin in Imphal East

Imphal, September 29: A combined team of Imphal East District Police, security forces and YADAM arrested two persons with suspected drugs during an anti-narcotics operation at Nongmeibung under Porompat Police Station. The arrested persons have been identified as 24-year-old Md. Ayub Khan and 20-year-old Md. Tomba, both residents of Kwakta. Police recovered 12 soap caps containing 157 grams of heroin, identified in the bulletin as Heroin Number 4, from their possession. A Maruti Suzuki car bearing registration number MN01-CS-3664 was also seized. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to detect and prevent the trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances.

Manipur Bodybuilders Felicitated After Asian Championship Success

Imphal, September 29: Manipur bodybuilders who won medals at the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship were felicitated at Comet School, Changangei Uchekon, in Patsoi Assembly Constituency. The championship was held in Bangkok from September 22 to 28. Laitonjam Rikhikanta of United Gym, Naoremthong, won gold in the Senior Men’s 90-kilogram category and was declared Overall Champion. Pritam Nahakpam of Khongbu Manga Fitness Centre, Kumbi, won gold in the Junior Bodybuilding Up to 75-kilogram category. Leishangthem Sarita of Royal Fitness Academy, Thoubal, won silver in the Women’s 55-kilogram category. The All Manipur Body Builders Association felicitated the medal winners for their achievements.

LSK Nambol Kangkhut Wins in Players Trophy Tournament

Imphal, September 29: LSK Nambol Kangkhut defeated WALYDA Kangkhut Wabagai in the 12th league match of the 19th Players Trophy League-cum-Knock-Out Tournament organised by Yaiskul Kangkhut. The match was played at Kangshang of Shree Shree Ram Gopaldev Mandop, Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak. LSK Nambol Kangkhut secured a 21-12 victory over WALYDA Kangkhut Wabagai. The tournament continues with the next league match scheduled between Yaiskul Kangkhut and Thangmeiband. The competition is being organised as part of the Players Trophy tournament and features kangkhut teams competing in the league-cum-knock-out format.
