Imphal, 19 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : The 48-hour general strike called by the JAC of Khomdram Ratan which began from last midnight has paralysed the life in the state. All the commercial establishments including Khwairamband Keithel, Paona Bazar, Thangal Bazar and educational institutions remained closed in Greater Imphal while Government offices recorded low attendance. Except for emergency and essential services both private and commercial vehicles remained off the road. General strike supporters blocked roads in various places by placing logs and tree branches. In Imphal East, bandh supporters blocked roads at Khurai Heikru-Makhong, Khurai Konsam Leikai and Wangkhei Ayangpali Road. Police blocked the Singjamei Bridge by barricading the bridge with barb wires with heavy security deployment in the area. On the other hand JAC has condemned heavy security deployment saying it has caused inconveniences to the people. JAC has called for the strike against the arrest of Khomdram Ratan. JAC members alleged that many including girl students were injured during the arrest of Khomdram Ratan on Wednesday night.
The first day of the 48-hour general strike also hit life in Pallel. Members of Ching Tam Apunba Lup and PALEM blocked roads and shut the shops in support of the bandh. Pallel bazar and other business establishments remained closed today. Ching Tam Apunba Nupi Lup Pallel and PALEM said they will support the agitation of the JCILPS.
