Imphal, 08 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : 3 low intensity IEDs exploded today at 10:45 in the morning at Kangpokpi. The blast injured 2 BSF personnel. The blast occurred 3 kms ahead of Kangpokpi town along National Highway-1 under Kangpokpi Police Station in Senapati district. Both the injured BSF personnel suffered splinter injury and were given first aid by Assam Rifles. During the blast the BSF personnel were boarding a mini- bus. Top officials of BSF and Manipur Police rushed to the spot to take stoke of the situation. A case has been registered at the Kangpokpi Police Station.

Acting on tip-off, personnel of 25 Assam Rifles intercepted an IED during a frisking at around 5:30 am at KCM Brick Field, Tengdouyan under Sekmai Police Station. The IED was found carried in an Imphal-Senapati bus SHOWY Travels bearing registration number MNO1, 1823. The IED was found hidden among 40 bags of rice loaded from Khuyathong. Leithangbam Shakhi, age 50 of Huikap who was carrying the bags of rice said 22 out of the 40 bags were hers and the rest 18 was loaded by another woman. The woman told Shakhi that she will come by next bus and asked Shakhi to look after her bags. Manipur Police Bomb Squad rushed to the spot and retrieved the IED. There were arguments between Assam Rifles and state police as Assam Rifles personnel wanted to explode the IED at a safe place which was not supported by the state police. Later state police brought the IED and the bus along with all the passengers at Sekmai Police Station. Passengers were verified one by one and allowed to leave. However, Police seized the bus and detained Shakhi for further verification.
