Imphal, 30 July 2016 ( Evening News ) : Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu today laid the foundation of Tunnel Number 12 which will be the longest rail tunnel in the country and Imphal Railway Station at Yurembam Awang Leikai. The Imphal Railway Station will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8.7 crore. Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Prabhu said a proposal will be submitted to the Union Finance Ministry for the extension of rail head up to Moreh from Imphal. The union minister also reminded that all round development of the North eastern region and bringing an emotional integration of the region with the rest of the country is among the main agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A team of railway Ministry will take stock of the project targeted to complete by December 2019. Suresh Prabhu also said the Centre and the state govt need to work together in terms of the security of the project once it is completed.
