Imphal, 02 July 2016 : Newly appointed chairperson of Manipur State commission for Women Dr. K.Sobita said the commission has taken up many initiatives to curb the problems facing women of the state. Addressing media persons at the office of Manipur State Commission for women located at DC complex ,Lamplepat, Dr.K.Sobita said to set up a help line number and a police security cell, a letter has been written to the Principle Secretary, Social welfare department. She said the commission there has others members namely, Ranjita Golmei, Farida Shah, Nilima Devi. She said since the establishment of the commission in 2007, 543 cases were received, out of which 500 cases has been solved. She also said a short stay home for women who have completed jail term will be established for smooth transition into mainstream society. Dr. K.Sobita said 50% of crime against women occur due to lack of awareness. She said as part of awareness programme, the commission will soon start awareness programme at Bishnupur.
