Drugs worth more than Rs 50 lakh seized from 6 persons including one woman from MG avenue
Imphal, 15 May 2016 :Drugs worth Rs 50 lakh 41 thousand were seized from 6 persons including one woman near City heart hospital at MG avenue yesterday afternoon. A team of inspector of Customs Headquarters Preventive Unit, Shillong and Deputy Commissioner Customs Division, Imphal seized 5 thousand 41 tablets of Amphetamine popularly known as “World is Yours” from six persons including one woman. The arrested persons are identified as Th. Nemjalam Mate from Chandel, Bijit Das from Karimganj, Assam now staying at Thangal Bazar, Manoranjan Modak from Jalpaiguri-West Bengal, Ajit Kumar Das from Cachar now staying at Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Vinod Prasad from Bihar now at Checkon Awang Leirak and Amar Kumar Das from Kolkata now at Soibam Leika. The combined team of Inspector of Customs Headquarters Preventive Unit, Shillong and Deputy Commissioner Customs Division, Imphal conducted an oparation following a tip off at MG avenue yesterday and nabbed the 6 persons. A case has been registered against them under the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985.
Protestors block Wangkhei Kongba road and form human chains demanding ILP in Manipur; wide spread protests held
Imphal, 14 May 2016 : People today blocked the Wangkhei-Kongba road and formed a human chain in support of the JCILP demand for Inner Line permit System in Manipur. Women vendors of Pureiromba Keithel at Wangkhei palace compound and people living around the market blocked Wangkhei Kongba road this afternoon around 1 and did not allow vehicular traffic on the road. Students of Pioneer Academy Palace Compound also took out a protest rally from the school till palace gate in support of the ILP agitation. The students and meira paibi members of the area formed a human chain on the road and shouted slogans.
Meanwhile members of Kongba-Thong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup held sit-in in support of the demand of the Joint Committee on Inner Line permit System (JCILPS). Women protestors blocked the road and staged sit-in at Kongba Bazar. Similar protests were also seen at Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Bamon Kampu Okram Leikai, Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai, and Irilbung Thong. A large number of protestors demonstrated in these areas and formed human chains demanding implementation of ILP in the state. They also chanted slogans during the protest.
Students of Heritage Convent School, Uripok Yambem Leikai also staged a sit in support of JCILPS today. It may be recalled that the JCILPS Students Wing locked the Administrative Block of the school after the students refused to take part in the ILPS stir. The school authority appealed to the JCILPS to withdraw its stand against the school.
5 including two former IPS officers and Congress deputy mayor join BJP Manipur Pradesh
Imphal, 14 May 2016 : BJP Manipur Pradesh today released the name of the candidates who will contest the Imphal Municipal Corporation elections on June 2. State Election Committee, BJP, Manipur Pradesh announced the names of 24 candidates out of 27 wards at the party office at Nityaipat Chuthek. Convenor of the Committee, Th Chaoba stated that 7 member board after much deliberation announced the candidates for the first phase and the names of the remaining 3 wards will be announced tomorrow. He also said that every party leader will put his best to sweep the election and pave the way for a corruption free Manipur.
Just one day after the state election commission announced the elections of the Imphal municipal corporation the Congress deputy mayor of the corporation joined the BJP Manipur Pradesh today. Five persons including the deputy mayor and two former IPS officers joined BJP Manipur Pradesh. They are former Congress Deputy Mayor Thambaljao Phaomei, former IPS officers S. Manglemjao and Potsangbam Dhanakumar, former JD (U) member Md. Azizur Rahman of Kshetrigao and Dr.Y. Radheshyam of Hiyanglam. BJP MLA Kh. Joykishan along with the executive members of the party welcomed the new members to the party this afternoon at a simple function at the party office at Nityaipat Chuthek.
Minister Ratankumar urges college teachers to inculcate in students the habit of attending classes regularly
Imphal, 13 May 2016 ( Evening News) : Education Minister Dr. Kh. Ratankumar today urged the teacher fraternity to use different techniques in teaching to inculcate in the students the zeal of attending classes regularly. Speaking at the inauguration of Marjing Indoor Hall and Kombirei Women's Hostel of NG College, Lamphel, Minister Ratankumar stated that scrapping the special category status from the state has given adverse impact on the economy of the state. He said despite the fact, the state cabinet after much deliberation gave the green signal to regularise the part time college teachers. Minister also added that the govt is considering participation of teachers in the New Education Board to seek their suggestions and opinions. Teachers and students of the college and members of NG College Development Committee attended the event organised by the Committee.
Science Meet 2016 kicks off at NIELIT
Imphal, 11 May 2016 ( Evening News) : Science and Technology Minister, T. Manga Vaiphei today inaugurated a 5 day Science Meet 2016 of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Akampat. The Science Meet was organised jointly by NIELIT, Manipur Science and Technology Council, Science Teachers Forum, Association for the Promotion of Science, Manipur Science Communicators Association and Generation De New Image on the theme ‘Make in India: Science and Technology Driven Innovations’. Speaking on the occasion the minister said a nation cannot develop without science and today science is not just for science teachers and students but for the mass. He maintained that science has a huge role to play in the advancement of a society. Special Secretary, Science and Technology, Government of Manipur, Director of Manipur Science and Technology Council, former Director, NIELIT, teachers and students from various institutes took part in the Meet.
A ‘Science Model Exhibition’ was also held as part of the event where students from different schools demonstrated their science models. Students expressed that their innovative models are based on the idea of affordable and sustainable products and plans.
