CSOs Joint Body Demand NRC Updation With 1951 Base Year

Imphal, September 24: Joint body of five civil society organisations of Manipur held a protest demonstration at Langol Zone-3 Community Hall today, demanding firm steps from the Centre to resolve the Manipur crisis and NRC updation with 1951 as the base year. Convener S. Sanjoy said the organisations would continue democratic agitations to protect Manipur’s territorial integrity. He also called for the early resettlement of internally displaced persons in their native places. Protesters raised slogans opposing SIR 2026, demanding NRC updation and repeal AFSPA, 1958. The agitation was organised by AMUCO, AMAWOVA, PLMPAM, COHR and MSF as part of a series of protests.

Cabinet Approves 70-Bed Dedicated Kidney Dialysis Centre

Imphal, September 24: The Manipur Cabinet has approved the conversion of the TB Hospital at Keirao Wangkhem into a 70-bed Dedicated Kidney Dialysis Centre. Dialysis units in eight district hospitals will also be upgraded to 30-bed facilities. State Government Spokesperson Dr Sapam Ranjan announced the decisions at a press meet at the Civil Secretariat. He said patients holding PMJAY and CMHT cards would receive free dialysis, while others could avail the service at nominal charges. The centre will operate under a public-private partnership model under the supervision of JNIMS, with upgradation work to begin soon. The Cabinet also approved revised power transmission compensation guidelines and compensation for victims of the 2022 Marangching landslide.

PRP Releases Five-Year Action Manifesto

Imphal, September 24: The newly formed People’s Reformation Party (PRP), a local political party registered with the Election Commission of India, has released its five-year action manifesto for the upcoming Manipur Assembly election. Speaking at Hotel Imphal, PRP President Andy Mangsatabam said the party intends to contest all 40 Assembly constituencies in the valley. He said the party believes the ongoing crisis requires a political solution and criticised national parties for having to follow their respective central leadership structures. Mangsatabam said PRP candidates would be selected after scrutiny, with emphasis on integrity, commitment to Manipur and public service. He added that the party would keep campaign expenditure within ECI-prescribed limits.

Assam Congress Leader Raises Concerns Over Stranded Trucks

Cachar, September 24: Assam Congress leader Dr Maimom Santi Kumar has criticised the situation of loaded trucks remaining stranded along the Silchar-Jiribam road, alleging inconvenience to commuters. Citing the Supreme Court’s interpretation of Article 21, he said authorities should ensure the safety and dignity of people travelling along the road. Santi Kumar called for designated parking areas and basic facilities for truck drivers, arguing that loaded vehicles should not remain parked on national highways for prolonged periods. He also raised concerns over roadside garbage and open defecation by drivers, saying these were contributing to traffic congestion and affecting schoolchildren and patients. He urged Assam Minister Koushik Roy and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand to intervene.

25 Students Selected for Semiconductor Training at IIT Madras

Imphal, September 24: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand today interacted with students from minority, OBC and Scheduled Caste communities at the Secretariat in Imphal. According to the Chief Minister’s social media post, 25 selected students will undergo semiconductor technology training at IIT Madras. The programme will be funded by the state’s Department of Minority Affairs, OBC and SC. The initiative aims to provide students with specialised skills and exposure to the emerging semiconductor sector. Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Minority Affairs, OBC, Armstrong Pame and MOBC Director Yumnam Suraj also attended the interaction. The training forms part of the state government’s initiative to provide students with opportunities in emerging areas of technology.

High Court Seeks State Response on Home Guard Reservation

Imphal, September 24: The High Court of Manipur has directed state authorities to respond to a petition concerning reservation of seats for Home Guard personnel in recruitment to Group C and Group D posts. Manipur Home Guard Employee Welfare Association President Yanglem Mangi said the Department of Personnel and Training under the Union Home Ministry had issued an order providing for such reservation in states and Union Territories. He said the association had submitted representations to the Manipur Chief Secretary, Commissioner Home and Commandant General Home Guard in July 2024, but no positive development followed. The association subsequently approached the High Court, which on September 22 directed the authorities to submit their response within three months.

Arms and Explosives Recovered During Seijang Search Operation

Imphal, September 24: A combined team of Imphal East Commando personnel and security forces recovered arms, ammunition and explosive materials during a search operation at the foothills of Seijang Cheirao Ching under Yaingangpokpi Police Station today. According to the police report, the recovery included six 12-bore guns, four of them locally made, along with a 9mm pistol and magazine. Security personnel also recovered two No. 36 hand grenades, two 2-inch mortar shells and one 51mm mortar shell. The team further seized 18 live rounds, 178 empty cases, six Emuldyne explosives, three explosive primers, two detonators with wire, seven arming rings and other grenade components.

Manipur Police Seize 664 Grams of Foreign-Origin Gold

Imphal, September 24: Manipur Police intercepted a 22-year-old man at North AOC on Wednesday following specific information regarding the alleged illegal transportation of gold. According to the police report, the accused, identified as Md. Shoaib Akhtar of Lilong Khunou in Thoubal district, was found carrying four bars of foreign-origin gold weighing around 664 grams. Police said the accused and the seized gold were handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further legal action. The seizure followed an interception based on the specific intelligence input. Further investigation will determine the source of the gold and the circumstances surrounding its transportation.

Forest Department Conducts ‘Operation Thunder’ in Chandel

Chandel, September 24: The Forest Department conducted ‘Operation Thunder’ at various locations in Chandel district today following reports of wildlife smuggling. The operation was led by Chandel Range Forest Officer N. Deepa under the supervision of DFO Dr N. Munal, in collaboration with Chandel Police. Dr Munal said the surprise operation was carried out as directed by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau under the Government of India to curb the killing and smuggling of wild animals. No offenders or cases of wildlife sale were detected during the drive. He said similar operations would continue ahead of Wildlife Week from October 2 to 8 and appealed to the public to support efforts to protect wildlife.

34 IAS Aspirants Felicitated at Churachandpur Government College

Churachandpur, September 24: Thirty-four IAS aspirants who completed their coaching course under ALS were felicitated at Churachandpur Government College today. Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, ALS Chief Executive Director Manish K. Gautam, Managing Director Jojo Mathew, College Principal Ginzamang Zou, IAS aspirants and others attended the programme. The free coaching programme is being organised in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education under the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Programme. Under the sponsorship, 200 aspiring students will be selected for one year of coaching, while another 100 students will receive fee concessions ranging from 50 to 90 percent from ALS under the CRS programme.

RIMS Dental College Wins National Oral Health Contest

Imphal, September 24: Dental College, RIMS Imphal, has won first prize in the World Oral Health Celebration Contest 2026 at the 47th National Conference of the Indian Society of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry in New Delhi. The conference was held from September 21 to 23. The award was received by Dr Wairokpam Bhoomika, Head of the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, on behalf of the college. RIMS authorities said the recognition reflected the collective efforts of its faculty, students and staff. The conference also featured the ISPPD NEST initiative, which brought together paediatric dentists from the Northeast to strengthen regional collaboration in child oral healthcare.

Mega Blood Donation Camp Held at Manipur University

Imphal, September 24: Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam has described blood donation as a noble form of giving and stressed the importance of teaching children the values of sacrifice and service from an early age. He was speaking at the 56th Foundation Day of My Bharat NSS and a Mega Blood Donation Camp at Manipur University, Canchipur. The event was held under Seva Sankalp Abhiyaan 2026 and marked National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2026. Around 70 to 80 donors participated in the camp, organised by My Bharat NSS Cell Manipur University, MY Bharat Imphal West District, State Blood Transfusion Council and Health Centre Manipur University. Certificates were also presented to officers selected for the Best NSS Programme Officer Award 2026.

District-Level Krishi Mela Promotes Natural Farming

Bishnupur, September 24: A district-level Krishi Mela on “Natural Farming for Sustainable Livelihood” was held at Nachou Khunou Community Hall in Bishnupur district today. The event was organised by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Bishnupur District, under the Department of Agriculture. Horticulture and Soil Conservation District Officer Soibam Sushila Chanu, ATMA Bishnupur Project Director Laishram Rashitombi, former Nachou Zilla Parishad member Thiyam Dilip, farmers and representatives of Farmer Producer Companies attended the programme. Stalls displaying products from food processing companies were also opened at the venue. The event provided a platform for farmers and stakeholders to discuss natural farming and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Programme Held to Promote Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries

Bishnupur, September 24: A one-day awareness-cum-training programme on strengthening sustainable aquaculture and fisheries value chains through species diversification and post-harvest innovations was held at Sunushiphai Community Hall in Bishnupur district today. The programme was jointly organised by the National Fisheries Development Board, North Eastern Regional Centre Guwahati, Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Loidang Devi Foundation, Moirang Phiwangam Leikai. More than 50 fish farmers from different parts of Moirang participated. Resource persons included NFDB officials and representatives from Aquatech Fish Feed and Aqua One Manipur. Former Moirang MLA Mairembam Prithviraj stressed the need to increase fish production to meet local demand.

Public Sector Banks to Open on September 27

New Delhi, September 24: The Finance Ministry has announced that all public sector banks and Regional Rural Banks across the country will remain open on Sunday, September 27, for the convenience of customers. The move comes ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions from September 28 to 30. The strike would coincide with the weekend holidays on September 26 and 27. According to the Ministry, the decision has been taken to help maintain banking services during the period. The government and bank managements have also appealed to the unions to defer the strike and said measures have been taken to ensure essential banking services continue uninterrupted.

Naorem Roshibina Wins Silver at Asian Games

Nagoya, September 24: Manipur’s Naorem Roshibina has won a silver medal in the women’s 60-kg Wushu Sanda event at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. In the final, China’s Zhang Xiaoyu defeated Roshibina 2-0. The 25-year-old athlete from Kwasiphai in Bishnupur district has become the first Indian to win three consecutive medals in Wushu Sanda at the Asian Games. She previously won bronze in 2018 and silver in 2023. Roshibina, daughter of Naorem Damu and Naorem Romila, received the Arjuna Award in 2023 for her achievements in Wushu.
