Three Houses Burnt in Kailenjang After Gunfire

Senapati, October 7: Three houses were reportedly burnt after unidentified armed men allegedly opened fire at Kailenjang village in Senapati district on Wednesday afternoon. According to information received by Impact News, the incident occurred around 2 PM when several rounds were allegedly fired towards the village, following which the houses were burnt. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. Additional security forces have been deployed in the area, while a search operation is underway. Kailenjang is located around 10 kilometres west of Senapati district headquarters, along the Senapati-Kangpokpi district boundary. The incident comes days after three people were killed and one injured in an earlier attack at the village on September 27.

MMTU Seeks Review of 1967 Kuki Refugee Rehabilitation Records

Imphal, October 7: The Meitei/Meitei Tribe Union (MMTU) has raised questions over the rehabilitation of Kuki refugees who entered Manipur from Burma in 1967, alleging irregularities and the use of forged documents. Speaking at Manipur Press Club, MMTU Research and Development Cell Chairman and former Manipur University Acting Vice-Chancellor K. Jugindro said the union obtained records related to the Manipur Hill Areas (Acquisition of Chiefs’ Rights) Act, 1967, from the National Archives. He alleged that around 1,500 Kuki families arrived from Burma that year and were subsequently rehabilitated in different parts of Manipur. The MMTU has called for further examination of government records concerning the refugee influx, rehabilitation and implementation of the 1967 Act.

CM Calls for Dialogue With Hill Communities

Imphal, October 7: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand has appealed to people in the valley to reach out to hill communities, listen to their grievances and work towards restoring peace through dialogue. Speaking at the Seva Jyoti Yatra at Kangla in Imphal, organised under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Khemchand said Manipur’s unity cannot be protected merely through slogans. He stressed the need to engage with people in the hills and find practical solutions to their concerns. Citing Manipur’s history, he said past rulers maintained dialogue with hill communities and lived together for centuries. The Chief Minister also warned that blockades and bandhs cause an estimated Rs. 20 to Rs. 25 crore in economic losses every day.

Shiv Sena Manipur Holds Seva Sankalp Programme

Imphal, October 7: Shiv Sena Manipur Pradesh organised a Seva Sankalp Abhiyan programme at the City Convention Centre in Imphal on Wednesday. Speaking at the event, former Minister Bijoy Koijam said the campaign calls upon citizens to dedicate themselves to serving the nation. He stressed the need for collective efforts by citizens and political leaders to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur. Koijam also urged the Centre and State Governments to take necessary steps towards resolving the situation in the state. Senior citizens and internally displaced persons were felicitated during the programme. The event formed part of activities aimed at promoting public service and social responsibility.

Heirok MLA Urges BJP Workers to Reach Out to Needy Families

Thoubal, October 7: Heirok MLA Dr Thokchom Radheshyam has said the BJP’s mission is to serve the people and fulfil their aspirations. He was speaking during a Seva Jyoti Yatra at Salungpham Kang Yambem organised by the Thoubal District Administration under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. Radheshyam flagged off the rally held to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service. He urged BJP workers to reach out to underprivileged families and ensure that eligible people benefit from government welfare schemes. Wangjing-Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen and other BJP leaders also participated in the programme.

MLA Loken Urges Against Politicising Wangoi CHC Issues

Imphal, October 7: Tourism Minister and Wangoi MLA Kh. Loken has appealed to individuals and organisations not to politicise issues concerning the Wangoi Community Health Centre without understanding the ground situation or approaching the concerned authorities. Speaking to the media at Babupara, Imphal, Loken was responding to a protest held a day earlier over alleged staff shortages at the health centre. He said neither local organisations nor the CHC authorities had previously raised the issue with him. Loken said a doctor was appointed last month and claimed that 10 doctors are currently posted at the health centre. He urged people facing difficulties to approach him or the concerned authorities for solutions.

Fire Service Plans Seven New Stations, Modern Emergency Systems

Imphal, October 7: The Manipur Fire Service Department is set to strengthen its emergency response system with new fire stations, modern technology and greater public awareness. Fire Service Director L. Nabachandra said new stations have been proposed at Porompat, Lilong, Yairipok, Saikul, Litan, Khumbong and Heirok. The department currently operates 22 stations and sub-stations with around 400 personnel and 103 fire tenders and firefighting vehicles. Drones and GPS-based systems are also being introduced. Nabachandra stressed the need for regular fire audits, safety checks and mock drills, particularly in hospitals and educational institutions. He said the department responded to 397 fire calls and 45 emergency calls during 2025-26.

Pharmacy Proprietor Arrested in Codeine Syrup Case

Imphal, October 7: Police have arrested the proprietor of Kangla Drugs & Surgical Pharmacy, Nongthombam Jamesjit alias Thoi, in connection with an FIR registered at Porompat Police Station following the arrest of three persons with contraband on October 4. Police identified Jamesjit, a resident of Naoremthong Bazar in Imphal West, as the suspected kingpin of the network and traced him to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he was arrested. A four-day transit remand has been obtained to bring him to Manipur for further investigation. Separately, a combined team recovered 8,320 bottles of CHOCO Plus cough syrup from the Oinam Thingel riverbank. The bottles contain Codeine Phosphate.

Man Arrested With 5.4 Kg of Suspected WY Tablets

Tengnoupal, October 7: Police have arrested a man with around 5.4 kilograms of suspected WY tablets at the Tengnoupal Police Station Naka Checkpost. The arrested person has been identified as 31-year-old Helminlal Haokip, son of Jaimkhollet Haokip, from Moreh in Tengnoupal district. According to police, six packets containing suspected WY tablets were seized from his possession during the checking operation. The accused has been taken into custody for further investigation, while police are examining the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.

Two Arrested With Suspected Brown Sugar in Churachandpur

Churachandpur, October 7: Churachandpur District Police have arrested two persons in possession of suspected brown sugar. The accused have been identified as 21-year-old Lettinthang Vaiphei and 33-year-old Lungoulen Haokip. Police said the two were arrested from Koite village along Tedim Road on Tuesday. During the operation, security personnel recovered 30 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing around 373 grams. A silver Ford EcoSport bearing registration number DL-1CT-4953 was also seized. The arrested persons and the seized items have been taken into custody as investigation continues into the source and intended destination of the suspected contraband.

Nando Luwang Warns of Legal Action Over Alleged Defamatory Post

Imphal, October 7: Social activist Ph. Nando Luwang has warned of legal action against the user of a Facebook account named “Jicko Ngangom” for allegedly posting defamatory remarks against him. Speaking to the media at Nando in Samurou Mayai Leikai, Wangoi constituency, Luwang alleged that the account circulated false and defamatory statements concerning his views on government policies expressed during television discussions. He said his views were based on genuine concern for the state and society and were not paid opinions. Luwang challenged the account holder to produce evidence supporting the allegations and urged people not to believe unverified claims circulating on social media. He also called for the user to disclose their identity.

IMC Corporator Demands Change in Commissioner

Imphal, October 7: Imphal Municipal Corporation Caretaker Corporator Hijam Newtonchandra has accused the IMC Commissioner of incompetence and dereliction of duty and urged the State Government to appoint a senior Manipur Civil Service officer as the new commissioner. Speaking to the media at the IMC Complex, Newtonchandra alleged that several officials were failing to perform their duties, while muster-roll employees were facing hardship due to pending salaries and pensions. He also claimed that corporators were meeting certain IMC expenses from their own pockets and that there were no clear promotion rules within the corporation. Newtonchandra warned of intensified agitation if the government fails to take immediate action.

Residents Raise Quality Concerns Over Tadubi-Ukhrul Road

Senapati, October 7: Residents and village authorities under Paomata and Chilivai Phaibung blocks have raised concerns over the quality of bituminous work on National Highway-102A between Tadubi and Ukhrul. They alleged that the newly completed 60-kilometre stretch from Tadubi to Lower Phaibung developed potholes, cracks and loose aggregates within a week of completion. The groups said the condition of the road has created risks for commuters and demanded an immediate technical inspection. They also sought reconstruction of defective portions at the contractor’s cost and action against those responsible. The groups warned of democratic agitation, including an indefinite blockade of NH-102A, if repairs are not undertaken by the end of October.

Organic Infrastructure Units Inaugurated in Thoubal and Kakching

Thoubal, October 7: Heirok MLA Dr Thokchom Radheshyam inaugurated several infrastructure units of Nongpok Organic Sintha Lup Producers Company Limited under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region. The facilities include a food processing unit, solar dryer, Custom Hiring Centre, three vermicompost units and two collection centres. The inauguration was held at Heirok Part 2 Chingdompok, with officials from the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, district administration and farmers attending. MLA Radheshyam said the new facilities would benefit farmers associated with the producers’ company. Commissioner Thaithuilung Pamei highlighted the agricultural potential of Thoubal and Kakching and the possibility of expanding access to Southeast Asian markets.

IIIT Manipur Launches AI Translation App ‘Ishaan’

Imphal, October 7: The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Manipur, has launched “Ishaan”, an AI-powered language translation application aimed at languages spoken across Northeast India. Developed under the National Language Translation Mission, BHASHINI, the app provides bidirectional machine translation for language pairs including English-Manipuri, Hindi-Manipuri, English-Bodo, English-Nepali and Assamese-Bodo. Project Principal Investigator Dr Kishorjit Nongmeikapam said IIIT Manipur developed the application in collaboration with IIIT Bombay, IIIT Hyderabad, Gauhati University, NIT Silchar and the University of North Bengal. The project has developed neural machine translation resources using more than 3.6 lakh sentence pairs. The application is currently available on Android.

Brighter Academy Marks Golden Jubilee With Sports Meet

Imphal, October 7: Brighter Academy Imphal celebrated its Golden Jubilee by organising its annual Sports Meet at the academy’s Khumbong branch. Speaking at the programme, Brighter Academy Khumbong Principal Beti Salam highlighted the institution’s contribution to education over the past 50 years and its record of producing successful students. She said the academy promotes holistic development through activities including NCC, aerobics, yoga and cultural programmes alongside academics. Salam also said the institution would continue working in line with the National Education Policy 2020 to nurture capable and well-rounded students. The achievers included Dr Minerva Rajkumari, who secured first position in the postgraduate M.S. Blood Donation Camp Held at Lok Bhavan

Imphal, October 7: Lok Bhavan, Manipur, in association with the Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch and the RIMS Department of Transfusion Medicine, organised a voluntary blood donation camp at Lok Bhavan in Imphal. Nearly 100 donors, including Lok Bhavan staff, CRPF personnel and students of DM College of Arts, donated blood during the camp. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited the programme and interacted with the donors, appreciating their contribution and highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation. Representatives of the Indian Red Cross Society, RIMS and Manipur AIDS Control Society also attended the event. The organisers stressed the role of voluntary donors in supporting patients requiring blood transfusions.

Manipuri Cultural Delegation From Bangladesh Meets Assembly Speaker

Imphal, October 7: A delegation of the Manipuri Cultural Youth Organisation, Sylhet, Bangladesh, met Manipur Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabarta in Imphal on Wednesday. The delegation discussed the socio-economic concerns of the Manipuri community in Bangladesh, along with issues relating to cultural preservation and support for the diaspora. The Speaker expressed his commitment to strengthening social and cultural ties between the Manipuri community in Bangladesh and Manipur and preserving Meitei heritage. Manipur Police Football Cup Begins at Lamlong

Imphal, October 7: The first Manipur Police Football Cup kicked off at the Artificial Turf Ground in Lamlong Thongkhong on Wednesday. Organised under the aegis of the All Manipur Football Association in connection with the 135th Raising Day of Manipur Police, the tournament was inaugurated in the presence of DGP IPS Mukesh Singh, senior police officials, AMFA Acting President D.B. Kowar and representatives of the association. Sixteen teams are competing in the knockout tournament. In the opening match, Classic FA Chingmeirong defeated MIU FC Mayang Imphal 7-1. Utlou FC will face SSU FC Singjamei in the second Round of 16 match, while Neroca FC Sangakpham will take on Pathap FC.

Asian Games Sepak Takraw Bronze Medallists Meet CM

Imphal, October 7: Members of India’s men’s Sepak Takraw Quadrant team that won bronze at the recently concluded Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games met Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand at his official residence in Imphal. The team included Manipur players Yumnam Akash, Sorokhaibam Malemnganba and Elangbam Lokhon, along with coach Pangabam Durjit. India created history by winning its first-ever Asian Games medal in the Sepak Takraw Quadrant event. India lost to Japan in the semifinal before securing the bronze medal. Chief Minister Khemchand congratulated the players and coach on their achievement and assured continued government support for sportspersons.

Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club Signs Sponsorship Deal

Imphal, October 7: Defending Governors’ Polo Cup champions Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club have signed a sponsorship agreement with Eartheners and Unibrow Studio for the 2026-27 season. The agreement was signed at Manipur Press Club by Club President Thoudam Thoinu, Eartheners Founder and Managing Director Soraisam Devakishor, and Unibrow Studio Director Tedawnshim Khaling. The club also unveiled its new jersey and website. Under the agreement, Eartheners will provide Rs. 10 lakh per tournament for major competitions in which the club participates. Each player will also receive Rs. 4,000 per month for the remaining seven months of the season. The sponsorship is expected to support the club’s activities during the upcoming season.
