Alleged Illegal Collection of Money From Forest Product Vehicles Raises Questions

Thoubal, October 4: Allegations have surfaced over the collection of money from vehicles transporting forest products in Thoubal district. A sand transporter alleged that his Tata Dumper, which had a valid Forest Department Transit Pass, was stopped at Langthabal Khunou on October 2 by individuals claiming to be deputed by the PRO of the Forest Minister. According to the driver, the group initially demanded Rs. 20,000 and later sought a lower amount to allow the vehicle to proceed. The vehicle was subsequently released after the owner arrived with a media team. Impact News also found a list of collections and another truck being asked to pay. Deputy Chief Minister and Forest Minister Losii Dikho was unavailable for comment.

AMUCO Protests Demand NRC Updation Before Census

Imphal, October 4: The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), along with four allied organisations, staged protests at various locations in Imphal demanding early updation of the National Register of Citizens with 1951 as the base year and an immediate resolution to the prolonged Manipur crisis. Protests were held at Uripok Sorbon Thingel and Iroishemba. AMUCO President S. Sanjay called for the early resettlement of internally displaced persons to their original homes and urged the government to prevent further killings and human rights violations. He also demanded uniform maintenance of law and order in the hills and valley and warned of intensified agitation if the demands are not addressed.

Mausoleum Memorial Park for Hijam Irabot Planned in Myanmar

Imphal, October 4: Khurai MLA L. Susindro has announced plans to construct a Mausoleum Memorial Park and statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot at Taungbo-Sedaw in Upper Chindwin District of Sagaing State, Myanmar, where the revolutionary leader breathed his last. Speaking to the media at his residence at Khurai Sajor Leikai, Susindro said no work had so far been undertaken to establish a memorial at the site. He said the proposed park would feature a statue of Irabot and document his contributions and works for future generations. Susindro said the project would be funded through contributions from his own resources and like-minded individuals.

Over Rs. 109 Crore Sanctioned for IDPs in Bishnupur

Bishnupur, October 4: Around Rs. 109.69 crore was sanctioned for internally displaced persons in Bishnupur district between May 3, 2023 and December 2025, according to information obtained under the Right to Information Act. The information was provided by the State Public Information Officer at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, following an appeal by an RTI activist. The activist had initially sought details including sanction orders, IDP lists, payment receipts and utilisation certificates. After proceedings before the Manipur Information Commission, sanction orders and utilisation certificates were furnished. The Commission observed that these documents are public records and allowed the appellant to inspect the relevant records.

United Peoples of Manipur Holds Sit-In Over NRC and Security Issues

Imphal, October 4: The United Peoples of Manipur staged a sit-in protest at Laiyingthou Puthiba Sanglen, Khurai, demanding NRC updation before the Census, non-arrest of village volunteers and action against Kuki SoO groups accused of involvement in attacks on civilians and security forces. United Peoples of Manipur President S. Paikhomba said the organisation fully supports the demand for NRC updation before the Census. He alleged that the prolonged violence has continued due to inaction by the state and central governments and security forces. Paikhomba also demanded action against groups accused of attacking civilians and security forces and warned that the organisation would intensify its agitation if its demands are not addressed.

Hand Grenade Found Near Residence in Yairipok, Safely Destroyed

Imphal, October 4: A Chinese-made hand grenade was found near the gated residence of Sharungbam Bimol at Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai under Andro Police Station on October 4. Passersby detected the explosive along with a letter bearing the name of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Department of Finance). The grenade was collected by Andro Police and the Manipur Bomb Disposal Squad at around 8 am and was safely disposed of at Andro Ngariyan Chingkhong at around 10:13 am. Local Meira Paibis condemned the incident and staged a protest. They appealed to armed groups to avoid such actions and resolve differences through dialogue.

Khoisnam Tokyo Receives London Book of World Records Award

Imphal, October 4: Social worker Khoisnam Tokyo from Manipur has been honoured with the United Kingdom’s “London Book of World Records” award in recognition of his social service activities. The award acknowledges his efforts to provide financial assistance from his own resources to elderly persons, widows and differently abled persons. Speaking to the media at his residence in Pishumthong Oinam Leikai, Tokyo expressed his commitment to continue his social work to the best of his ability. His recognition highlights his contribution towards supporting vulnerable sections of society through personal assistance and community-oriented initiatives.

India Wins Asian Games Men’s Hockey Gold, Secures Olympic Qualification

Nagoya, October 4: India clinched gold in the men’s hockey event at the 20th Asian Games after defeating Malaysia 5-1 in the final in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Captain Harmanpreet Singh led India’s scoring with goals in the 11th and 57th minutes. Jugraj Singh, Hardik Singh and Shilanand Lakra also found the net. Malaysia’s lone goal came from Shello Silverius in the 14th minute. The victory secured India direct qualification for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. It was India’s fifth Asian Games gold in men’s hockey, adding another major achievement to the country’s record in the sport.

Veteran Cricket Promoter Shougaijam Seityabarta Passes Away

Imphal, October 4: Veteran cricket promoter Shougaijam Seityabarta, popularly known as Tamo Boy, has passed away after a prolonged illness. He played a significant role in popularising cricket in Manipur and nurturing young players from the 1950s. Seityabarta was also among the key contributors to the establishment of the Manipur Cricket Association, which was formed on September 16, 1975, with Thangjam Modhu as president and RK Subaljit as secretary. He served as secretary of the association for two terms and later as president for one term. His contribution to the development of cricket in Manipur is being remembered by the sporting community.
