Students' Union of Mayai Lambi College,Yumnam Huidrom has boycotted any activities in the college until the Government fulfils their demand for a qualified Principal.

The Students' Union has claimed that the current Principal in charge does not fulfil the required criteria or RR hence, hindering progress of the college. Reportedly, the students have already submitted a written request demanding the same to Education Minister S. Rajen but there is no response yet.

They have also complained that there is not a single teacher in the History department of the college.

Police booth set on fire at Japhou Bazaar, Chandel for taking down Naga flags

Celebrations of Naga Independence day from the British tuned ugly in Chandel District, Manipur today.

Intense scuffle erupted between police and local Nagas at Japhou Bazaar in Chandel District when the locals celebrated Naga's Independence Day from the British by hoisting NSCN-IM Flag at various places.

Scuffle reportedly occurred when police took down the Naga flags citing that Indo-Naga Ceasefire is not extended to Manipur. Irate locals vandalised one police booth and set it on fire, while police resorted to tear gas shelling to contain the situation.

A video is also circulating where in the locals say that they will boycott India's 75th Independence Day celebrations tomorrow.

MAN HELD WITH HEROIN WORTH ABOVE RS.32 LAKH

Imphal East Police Narcotic Cell nabs man with Heroin Powder worth over RS.32 Lakh in international market from Kyamgei Idgah Salam Manung Area

A team of Imphal East Police Narcotic Cell has arrested a man along with 156 grams of Heroin Powder worth around 32 lakh and 20 thousand rupees in the international market. According to police, the arrested man is 32-year-old, Md. Gayazuddin, Son of Md. Maheruddin from Kiyamgei Awang Leikai.

Narcotic Cell Imphal East OC, Inspector, Kh. Devkumar along with Narcotic Cell ASI Md. Tamijur Rahman led the team under the supervision of Imphal East SP, Additional SP (Law and Order) and SDPO Porompat. They along with volunteers of Youth Athletic Development Association, YADA Kshetrigao arrested the miscreant.

Police produced arrested Md. Gayazuddin before media persons at Porompat Police Station today. Speaking to media, Imphal East Additional SP (Law and Order) M. Bishworjit said, the team arrested him from Kyamgei Idgah Salam Manung Area during a frisking operation at around 8:30 PM yesterday.

The arrested man along with the seized contraband drug has been handed over to Irilbung Police Station OC for necessary actions.

NFSA RICE FOR JULY VANISHED?

CAF & PD Department misappropriated rice meant for NFSA beneficiaries for July, alleges Congress MLA K. Ranjit

Sugnu Congress MLA Kangujam Ranjit has accused the CAF & PD Department of misappropriating rice provided under National Food Security Act, NFSA, for the month of July amid the tough times of COVID-19 pandemic.

The MLA made the allegations today while speaking to media at Chingtam Community Hall in Sugnu, where he was making arrangements for distribution of rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, PMGKAY. He emphatically said, "people are suffering for the past 3 months owing to Corona Curfew". The local MLA claimed that the department has failed to give any befitted response when asked about the lost rice quota.

Congress MLA K. Ranjit demanded the BJP led State Government to take actions against the culprits involved in the misappropriation and to give back the allocated rice to the beneficiaries. He also announced that people of the constituency will get rice under PMGKAY stored at Chingtam Community hall, Sugnu along with rice under NFSA for the month of August within couple of days.

The local MLA informed that he has already deposited the required amount of money to the Department for procuring the rice quota meant for NFSA beneficiaries in his constituency for the month of August.

MP Leishemba Sanajaoba moves Upper House to convert the Manipur University of Culture into a Central University

Rajya Sabha MP and Titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has moved the parliament house to convert the Manipur University of Culture into a Central University. He brought up the matter as a special mention in the Upper House of the ongoing monsoon session of the Parliament today.

MP Leishemba Sanajaoba mentioned that even students from Bangladesh, Myanmar and other foreign countries come to learn Nat Sangkritan, recognised by UNESCO, Thang-ta, Rasa Das and other indegenious art forms of Maniour at the University. He urged the Upper house to convert the University into a central university and equip it with necessary infrastructure.

It maybe mentioned that the Manipur University of Culture was established in 2015 with an aim to promote and conserve the cultural heritage of Manipur.
