Imphal, 11 September 2020 ( Evening News ) : Social Welfare Department observed 'International Day of the Girl Child 2020' at Gandhi Memorial Hall today. Commissioner of Social Welfare Department H.Gyan Prakash, Director Ng Uttam and top officials of the department attended the event. Winners of various online competition held in relation to ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ and ‘International Day of Girl Child 2020’ were also felicitated at the event. A website specially meant for ‘Person with Disabilities’ was launched and a short film titled ‘The Dawn’ ( Anouba Mangal) was also released on the occasion. Speaking at the event, H.Gyan Prakash said United Nations General Assembly adopted a Resolution to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognise girls' rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. He added, today reminds of those gaols mentioned in Millennium Development Goal which includes to give more power to women, to enhance the financial condition of women by taking up various developmental projects for women, to decrease poverty rate and to include women in taking decisions of a society. He asserted that, as per the resolution by United Nations General Assembly, the day acknowledge and celebrate the importance and potential of girls around the world and to promote gender equality. The Commissioner appreciated Social Welfare Department for organising various competitions to spread awareness on the issue amid the COVID19 pandemic.

Imphal, 10 October 2020 ( Evening News ) : National Sports University Haraothel Protection Committee has decided to suspend its agitation. Sekmai MLA Heikham Dingo, representatives of National Sports University Haraothel Protection Committee and villages in Sekmai Constituency met with Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren yesterday. They apprised the Chief Minister about the ongoing tension in various parts of the Constituency with regards to construction of National Sports University at Haraothel. It maybe recalled that intense agitations erupted between two communities over the jurisdiction of Haraothel, as one party claims it falls in Kangpokpi District while the Committee claims that it falls in Imphal West District. Following an agreement in the meeting with the Chief Minister, National Sports University Haraothel Protection Committee has decided to withdraw its agitation.The agreed terms included reaffirmation of the venue for the construction of National Sports University at Haoraothel as earlier submitted to the Central Government, to award befitted punishments to those culprits who uploaded fake documents on social media which incited controversies over the venue for the construction of the Sports University and to hold discussions with various stakeholders concerned to ensure smooth construction of the National Sports University.

Imphal, 09 October 2020 (Evening News): National Postal Week begins today until October 15. While, the World Post Day falls on October 10.  Department of Post, Manipur Division launched the event at the Head Post office in Babupara. Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent of Post Manipur, Postal Division L. Tiken stressed on the significance of Post office.  He said, apart from dispersal of letters and couriers, Post office provides benefits of various welfare schemes as well as life insurance, Aadhaar card and passport making facilities. L. Tiken also highlighted various activities to be taken during the postal week.

Imphal, 05 September 2020 ( Evening News ) : CrPC section 144  has been imposed at Leimakhong Chingmang in Sekmai Consituency following a clash between two communities. Leimakhong Chingmang Village Development Protection Committee has appealed to the government to resolve the matter at the earliest. Members of the Committee and locals held a meeting in this regard at Kanto Sabal Community Hall today. Speaking to media, Advisor of Leimakhong Chingmang Village Development Protection Committee, Phuritsabam Jeevan Meitei said, Leimakhong Chingmang is inhabited by various communities and that scuffles occurred among youths of two communities on Sunday which got intensified with the involvement of others of each communities on October 4. He added that Sekmai police, locals and committee members held a meeting to resolve the matter at Leimakhong Chingmang Konu Lairembi Community Hall. Jeevan said, one woman attendee, Lhinlhing Chongloi who is not from Leimakhong Chingmang tried to assault a victim, hence the meeting could not come to any conclusion, rather it led to more heated arguments and eventually led to vandalisation of the Community Hall. Subsequently, massive Police personnel rushed to contain the situation. He also said that a woman called Ningleithem alias Tombi expelled people staying in her rental rooms today leading to mass scuffle. He appealed to the relevant authorities to take necessary measures at the earliest.

Imphal, 03 October 2020 ( Evening News ) : Lamphel Sub-Divisional Officer- Pooja Elangbam appealed people to remove illegal constructions and encroachments on Government’s land. She was speaking to media on the sidelines of eviction of illegally constructed houses and shops from Maharani Bridge to Naoremthong along Uripok Kangchup Road today. The eviction drive was conducted around 8 this morning. Speaking further, Lamphel SDO Pooja Elangbam said the drive was carried out followed by complaints of people which was evoked by occurrence of road mishaps and Traffic Jam due to illegal encroachments and hoarding of items in front of shops. She added, one month notice was even serve to people to remove illegal constructions and encroachments. A team led by Imphal Police SDPO Th. Bidyapati, Imphal West District Commando DSP Thomas kept a strict vigil to avoid any untoward incidents during the Eviction drive.

Imphal, 01 October 2020 ( Evening News ) : Screening of outsiders are on halt at COVID-19 Screening booth in Jiribam's Babupara due to cease-work strike by outsourced staff. People coming from Assam were stranded owing to the same this morning. Eventually, Security personnel screened them using Infrared Thermometer. Chief Medical Officer of Jiribam District, Dr E. Okendro said Health department officials along with 6 Outsourced staff used to work at the screening booth but now they are on 10 days of cease work strike since yesterday demanding to pay them befitted honorariums.

Imphal, 28 September 2020 ( Evening News ) : Today is the last day for hearing the election petition filed against Minister Okram Henry challenging his victory in the 2017 State general elections.  Justice of the High Court of Manipur MV Murlidharan will preside over the case. The petition was filed by Okram Henry's contender in the 2017 election from Wangkhei Assembly Constituency Yungkham Irabot. In his election petition filed at the High Court,  Yungkham Irabot claimed misconduct in declaring the 2017 election's result. Owing to this pending court case, it is still unconfirmed whether the Election Commission of India, ECI will approve conduction of by-election this November to fill up the vacant MLA seat of Wangkhei Assembly Constituency.

Imphal, 27 September 2020 (Evening News ) :  One person died and 23 were injured in a violent clash between two villages Aimol Chingnunghut and Aimol Khunyai under Machi Police station in Tengnoupal District regarding land dispute. Tengnoupal DC imposed curfew in both the villages to avoid further untoward incident. Impact News sources, the incident occurred around 4.30PM yesterday. The incident occurred when youths of Aimol Khunyai playing football on the controversial playground. Upon getting the news o conflict between the two villagers, Officers of Tengnoupal and Kakching District Police, top police officials and additional police forces rushed to the area and tamed the conflict. Police are still on strict vigil to avoid any unwanted incidents. The deceased in the incident is Pastor of Aimol Chingnunghut, Thangjalal son of Waneilal.

Imphal, 25 September 2020 ( Evening News ) : Dropping of Kangpokpi MLA, Nemcha Kipgen from State Cabinet has led to mass upheavals in Kangpokpi District. Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren led BJP Coalition State Government's claims of building cordial relations among hill and valley inhabitants are at stake.  Following yesterday’s Cabinet reshuffle, various Women Organisations, Civil Society Organisations, Private Organisations & Associations of Kangpokpi carried out protest demonstrations at Kangpokpi Women’s Market today against the removal of the lone woman minister from the State Cabinet.  Enraged mob even burnt down Chief Minister N. Biren’s photo. They demanded to re-appoint Nemcha Kipgen as Cabinet Minister failing which they warned of launching even more intense agitations. Taking part in the protest, General Secretary of Kuki Women Union Sardar Hills, Hethem Kipgen lambasted Chief Minister Biren led BJP State Government for claiming to empower women in the State when the lone woman minister was removed from Cabinet. Speaking on the sidelines, KWWO President Hekim Hangshing asserted that Nemcha Kipgen initiated various welfare and developmental activities during her tenure as a Social Welfare Minister. Many members of Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation, Kuki Town Committee, Kangpokpi Youth Union, representatives of Kangpokpi Kuki Chief and various Women Organisations of Kangpokpi District took part in the protest demonstrations.

Thadou Inpi – General Headquarter in the name of Kangpokpi District condemned the dropping out of the lone woman Minister of Manipur Nemcha Kipgen of Kangpokpi Assembly seat in the recent Reshuffling of State Cabinet Reshuffle. Imphal, 22 September 2020 (Evening News ) : Police has arrested three miscreants involved in looting 1 crore and 15 lakh Rupees and murder of Arambam Ranjan Meitei on September 4 near SBI Main Branch Churachandpur. The arrested persons are 40 year old,  V.Thangkhanmaun, Son of late V.Tunkhokam from Munhoi village in Churchandpur District, 36 year old, K.Somen, Son of K Achouba from Khuga Tampak in Churachandpur District and 40 year old, Khongkham Brojen, Son of late K Sahen from Bamon Kampu, Imphal East District. All three of them are employees of Writers Safeguard Group. An amount of 20 lakh rupees, one point 32 revolver gun and some live bullets have also been recovered from them. Police interrogation revealed that mastermind of the incident is Khongkham Brojen and he gave his point 32 license revolver and 6 bullets to K.Somen and Thangkhanmaun to carry out the crime. It further revealed that they have swindled around 2 crore rupees meant for depositing in ATMs over the span of last 5 years.

After a long protest to deliver justice for late Arambam Ranjan, who was shot near SBI main branch Churachandpur on September 4, police has arrested the suspects. Furious locals stormed the residence of accused K. Somen, Son of K.Achouba at Khuga Tampak, Zoveng Churachandpur this morning. Police, CSO and JAC leaders tried to pacify the angry mob who tried to attack and demolish the accused person’s house and even tried to set the house on fire. Police along with JAC leaders have shifted the family to a safer place. Curfew has been imposed in the area. A meeting of the JAC and other civil societies are underway till the time of filling of this report. A press conference will be convened this afternoon after the joint meeting is over.

Residents of Langdum carried out a protest rally today chanting various slogans condemning the authorities concerned for failing to punish culprits involved in the killing of Driver cum Security of Writer Safeguard Company Agency- Arambam Ranjan alias Kuku, even after identifying them. Protestors started the rally from Langdum village but police intercepted them at Langdum Lamkhai. Scuffles occurred as protestors forcefully tried to continue their rally. Later, Imphal East Additional SP and SDO Keirao Bitra arrived and intervened.  Following an agreement, police allowed the protestors to continue the rally till Irilbung Thongkhong.
