Imphal, 06 April 2018 ( Evening News ) : Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has alleged the State Government of misappropriating the public's fund by diverting the huge amount of funds sanctioned by the Centre and failing to provide the government employees’ salaries and pensions. Addressing media persons at MPCC office, on BT Road today, spokesperson of MPCC, Kh Joykishan further alleged that the recent withdrawal of funds by mistake amounting to 3 crore rupees as claimed by the Government as false and maintained that the amount is even more than 30 crores. He also asserted that the clarifications given by Spokesperson of the Government and Works Minister, Th Bishwajit that there is no incident of withdrawal of funds with forged CDA is even more false. Joykishan said it is a cheat to the people by the government to say that non plan funds already transferred to contractors’ account would be reclaimed and added, it must be a shock even for the experts. He said it is shocking to know the withdrawal of non plan funds recently when it was declared on March 28 that there were no more Non-plan funds. He drew the attention of the Chief Minister to set up a committee today itself comprising of representatives from the ruling, opposition and neutral media to discourse on the issue instead of carrying out blame games by the ruling and opposition party on Media. Joykishan further expressed astonishment for the sanction of non plan funds to a black listed contractor, SN Pamei. He accused the government of making one sub contractor Sanjoy as a scapegoat to cover its misdeeds. On the other hand, the Congress spokesperson expressed happiness upon Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Khumukcham Sanjita from Manipur on bagging gold medals in the ongoing 21st edition Common Wealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia and blessed the players for their future endeavours.
Imphal, 06 April 2018 ( Evening News ) : India has won its 2nd Gold medal on Day two in Women's Weightlifting in the ongoing Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, 2018. Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu of Manipur won the Gold in the 53 kg Women category today. She lifted a total of 192 Kgs. While Deepak Lather bagged a bronze - first for India at 2018 commonwealth games - in 69kg weightlifting Men category. He lifted a combined weight of 295kg - 136kg in snatch and 159kg in Clean and Jerk. With this India has won 2 Gold and a silver. India now has four medals and all four have come from weightlifting. It may be mentioned Mirabai Chanu won the first Gold for India yesterday and broke the Commonwealth record in 48 kg category. Mirabai managed to lift 196kg in a remarkable effort. While P Gururaja bagged a silver mebal in Men's weight-lifting.
On the other hand The Indian Olympic Association, IOA, expressed happiness at the strong performance of the country's contingent on the opening day of competitions in the Commonwealth Games. It said the medal count will only go up in the coming days. India, one of the powerhouses of the Commonwealth Games, is being represented by 218 athletes this time. It may be mentioned the country won 64 medals (15 gold, 30 silver, 19 bronze) in the 2014 Glasgow CWG.
