Police today conducted a drive against drug abusers and immoral activities at Kabow Leikai
Imphal, 05 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Police today conducted a drive against drug abusers and immoral activities at Kabow Leikai and arrested 10 persons including two women. A team of police personnel under the supervision of Additional SP Operation, Imphal West, Dr. Sarangthem Ibomcha launched the drive in the locality near Manipur Pubic Service Commission. During the drive which began from 9.30 am police arrested 10 persons including two women. Those arrested included drug abusers and persons who indulged in immoral activities. The arrested persons were taken to Imphal police station.
Former minister and renowned historian Prof Gangmumei Kamei passes away, he was 76
Imphal, 05 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Former minister, BJP leader and renowned historian Prof Gangmumei Kamei passed away at his residence at Majorkhul this morning at 8.20. He was 76. Chief minister Okram Ibobi visited his place to offer his respect to the departed and condolences to the bereaved family. A number of distinguished personalities including former minister RV Minthing and teachers of Manipur University and representatives of several civil society organisations offered their last respect to Prof Gangmumei Kamei. Prof Kamei began his teaching career as a school teacher. He taught at Imphal college, DM college, JNU centre for post graduate studies and retired as professor of history from Manipur university in 2001. He was also associated with Nagaland university, Rajiv Gandhi university, Arunachal Pradesh, NEHU Shillong. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.

Imphal, 5 January 2017 : The 38 assembly constituencies where election will be held in the first phase - March 4 are 1-Khundrakpam, 2-Heingang, 3-Khurai, 4-Khetrigao, 5-Thongju, 6-Keirao, 7-Andro, 8-Lamlai, 9-Thangmeiband, 10-Uripok, 11-Sagolband, 12-Keisamthong, 13-Singjamei, 14-Yaiskul, 15-Wangkhei, 16-Sekmai(SC), 17-Lamsang, 18-Konthoujam, 19-Patsoi, 20-Langthabal, 21-Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, 22-Wangoi, 23-Mayang Imphal, 24-Nambol, 25-Oinam, 26-Bishenpur, 27-Moirang, 28-Thanga, 29-Kumbi, 46-Saikul(ST), 50-Kangpokpi, 51-Saitu(ST), 55-Tipaimukh(ST), 56-Thanlon(ST), 57-Henglep(ST), 58-Churachandpur(ST), 59-Saikot(ST) and 60-Singhat(ST). Election Commission announces dates for Manipur polls, polling to be held in two phases on March 4 and 8
Imphal, 5 January 2017 : The Election Commission announced the schedule of assembly elections to be held in Manipur and other four states. The other four states are UP, Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand. The Model Code of Conduct comes into effect in the 5 states immediately. The election in Manipur will be held in two phases -- 38 assembly constituencies in the first phase and 22 assembly constituencies in the second phase. Polling will be held on March 4 and March 8. For the first phase the date of Notification is February 8, Last Date of Nomination - February 15, Scrutiny of Nomination Feb 16 and Withdrawal of Nomination is February 18. For the 2nd Phase, the Date of Notification is Feb 11, the Last Date of Nomination Feb 18, Scrutiny of Nomination Feb 20 and Withdrawal of Nomination is Feb 22. Counting will be held on March 11. The EC has directed that the limit for expenses for candidates is Rs 20 lakh in Manipur and Goa and Rs 28 lakh for UP, Punjab and Uttarakhand. The EC will also focus on paid news and Press council of India will help the commission in detection of paid news. There will be strict expenditure monitor mechanism to curb black money.
