Imphal, 09 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Thousands of devotees from different parts of state thronged the Hiyangthang Lairembi Temple on day of Bor on the second day of Durga Puja Festival. Nupi-palas also performed religious songs at the temple. Volunteers of Red cross society and NCC, Manipur Police, Traffic Control Police and IRB personals kept strict vigil at the temple to avoid unfortunate incidents
Imphal, 08 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has asserted that doors are wide open to welcome those person who wanted to join in the Congress party by keeping faith in the ruling Govt. Speaking in connection with the inaugural function of 1st state level sub junior swimming competition at Modern College Swimming pool he express his opinion saying he feels sad on Biren quoting the Congress however it will not have any impact to the party. He also maintained that MLA Biren after serving in the party and Govt for a long time do not want to leave the party all of a sudden.As he left the Congress according to his own will he has nothing to say on it.There is no division or dissension within the Congress. All the MLA’s under O Ibobi’s leadership are staying united and there will be no more resignation of MLA from the party and Govt.
Imphal, 07 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Sit-in was held today protesting the burning down of Manipur University recreation hall and vandalising of two rooms at the university. The sit-in was staged by Manipur University Teachers Association, Manipur University Staff Association and Manipur University Officers Association in front of the main gate of the university. Various placards were displayed at the sit-in like ‘Make Manipur University a Violence Free Zone’, ‘We Condemn Violence’, ‘Honour the Sanctity of University’ among others. Manipur University Teachers Association President Prof. S. Jibon-kumar strongly condemned the incident and termed the arson at the Manipur University as unfortunate. He said it will be better to solve various issues through dialogue rather than using violence.
Imphal, 03 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : 11-day 'Training of Trainers And Facilitators' and 'Training on Leadership & Motivation' for the election officers began today at the Institute of Co-operative Management Conference Hall, Lamphelpat. The training program is held in view of the upcoming 2017 general election. The program is jointly organised by Chief Electoral Officer Manipur and India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management, IIIDEM under the supervision of Election Commission of India. Manipur Chief Electoral Officer, resource persons from IIIDEM and others attended the program. Around 100 trainees participated in the training program. The training will conclude on Oct 14.
Imphal, 02 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Suspected supporters of economic blockade burnt down two trucks loaded with wheat on National Highway-2 between Khongnem and Karong in Senapati district this morning. The two ill-fated trucks heading towards Imphal from Dimapur bearing registration number NL-01 K-2478 and NL-07 A-4249 were set on fire by the blockade supporters. Senapati police controlled the fire with fire tender. However there was no report of human casualty. The indefinite economic blockade has been called by Contract Basis Appointed Teachers Association Senapati against non regularisation of their service from September 25. The 136 contract teachers were appointed in 2011 by the Govt. They were not also given salaries the last 6 years.
Imphal, 02 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and several leaders of Manipur today offered floral tributes to the Father of the nation at his statue at Gandhi Memorial Hall this morning. In her speech Dr Heptulla said Mahatma Gandhi led the nation in its struggle for freedom from the British yoke using non violence as his most powerful weapon. She said Mahatma Gandhi belongs to the whole world and to all generations. Dr Najma Heptulla maintained that the present generation should try to imbibe the virtues of tolerance and humanism from him for a better world today. The also governor urged the people to remember the lofty thoughts of the father of the nation and remind themselves of the virtue of love, mercy and forgiveness. She observed that it would be paying true homage to him if everyone strives to keep one's body, mind and soul clean.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said when the whole world is facing turmoil, it is important to remember his message of love, peace and non-violence. He said the world will always remember Mahatma Gandhi's weapon of non violence for ever. Ibobi also stressed the importance of cleanliness as professed by the Mahatma.
Imphal, 01 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Retired IAS officer S. Sunderlal has been sworn in as the first Chairman of Manipur Municipality Property tax Board. Governor Dr. Nazma A Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy to S. Sunderlal at a function held at Raj Bhavan. The board will have 3 members including the Chairman and MAHUD director will be the Member secretary. Chief minister Okram Ibobi, his cabinet colleagues, top civil and police officials attended the event.
Imphal, 01 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : United Committee Manipur-UCM today questioned the Manipur govt about its policy on NSCN-IM. The UCM today performed the last day of Langban tarpan at Kekrupat. Speaking to media on the occasion, UCM President Elangbam Johnson termed the recent incident at Senapati as unfortunate. He said the people's agitation against the arrest of 3 cadres of NSCN-IM by Assam Rifles and their subsequent release was unfortunate. Elangbam Johnson demanded the govt to clarify the matter.
He also said the UCM will fight any threat against the integrity of Manipur. He also alleged the three cadres of the NSCN-IM arrested by the Assam rifles were involved in looting of vehicles on the National Highways. He said the govt must clarify why those arrested in the hills are released while actions are taken against those arrested in the valley without giving any reason. He expressed concern at the different treatment.
